CHAVEZ all the way! He's skill was amazing. Fast, strong and smart. I would pay $1000 to see that fight!

This is a tough one to call. De la Hoya had a feel for boxing and Chavez had natural talent for it. I think Chavez was the better boxer overall. It really depends when you match them up since they primed in different weight classes.

Depends on which weight class they fought in at super feather weight Chavez definately beats De la hoya, he was too tall and skinny at that weight he only fought at superfeather to win a quick world title before moving up. At lightweight Chavez probably beats De la hoya anything above that De la Hoya wins. Most people will pick Chavez in this question but De la Hoya has beated Chavez twice and deserves alot of respect for that.

In boxing history Chavez hold's a higher place than Oscar, and as they both fade into history, Chavez will cement his place as one the all time greats. Oscar too may be considered part of boxing's elite, I just can't see Oscar's name and legacy holding the same weight in Canasota as Julio Cesar Chavez.

Chavez was the better fighter, no one punished the body more then he did. He was the only fighter I saw that would make you open up your head for shots so you could rest from the body blows he inflicted. His son is going to be good, but no where near the class dad was in.

Chavez. Oscar hasn't beaten any great fighters in there prime besides Vargas and Gatti. He lost to shane mosley twice. Lost to Trinindad, got knocked out by Hopkins.

It's difficult to compare fighters from different eras, but I'd say Chavez due to his longevity. He's still fighting now, while De La Hoya is out making records in espanol.

somehow it didnt surprise me that when xrayed they found that Chavez had a thicker than normal skull, he could pound and box with the best of them, I felt bad for Meldrick when he got stopped but having a fractured eye socket and with all the internal bleeding you could tell he could have got killed...if you remember back (or look at fight film) JCC ducked no one and warred every time...Oscar had never beat a truly great fighter at the top of his game (and lets not even mention that heavy bag with a mouth mayorga...)oscar beat JCC far far past his prime...
