i just reformatted my hard drive, reinstalled windows. then i updated to service pack 2 using the disc. Then i restarted 15 minutes ago and windows is still starting. Is this normal? If not, how do I fix it?

I agree with Justin H try starting in safe mode, while in safe mode run scandisk, SP2 is known to have problems sometimes with firewalls, just a tip.

If this is the first restart after installation, it could be the system is configuring hardware and system settings. If it continues for much longer, I would shut the system down and reboot pressing F8 so you can enter safe mode. Sometimes just booting in safe mode and then rebooting normally is enough.

It's possible you are missing some critical driver or something and that could be causing the delay.

Since you haven't done anything else yet, you could always start over by reformatting your drive and reinstalling Windows.

Dont worry, you are in normal mode. Plz be conform you have also installed chips drivers from your mother-board CD because it help to fine your graphics and sound to be installed.
