"Proclaim a gospel contrary"
The Book of Mormon does not contradict the Bible, it is not deceiving people. The book of Mormon brought me to Jesus. I had no faith in God before I read the Book of Mormon. Now I do believe in Jesus, and I believe in God. I give my life to Christ and try to live by his example as outlined in the Bible.

All Paul is saying is that if any man or angel teaches a wrong gospel, we should reject it. It does not mean to say every angel you see is a false angel.
An angel is a messenger from God, even from the time of Adam. If God no longer uses angel for his work, then no doubt the angel that brought the book of Mormon is questionable.
But then, God could have said he will no longer uses angel, and thus no need for any warning about fake angels.
Yet, he did gave that warning, because, there will be continuely have angels sent down from heaven, and we need to learn to know who is true or not.
Just to be on a offensive mood, take this for what it worth.
7 Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.
(Old Testament | Amos 3:7)
11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
(New Testament | Ephesians 4:11)
If God only reveal his word to the prophet, and he set up prophets in his church, where is the prophets in modern day churches?
Many christians like you, only see the pressumed contradiction in the LDS, yet, not one of you can look to your own doctrine and see your own flaws.

Galatians is a terrible example for Mormon bashers to use. Paul wrote that those who taught the gospel differently than he did were cursed. This is the very reason the church needed to be restored to the earth. Through centuries of apostasy the truth Paul taught was lost to the earth.
What did Paul teach in Galatians?
11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.
12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.
This words of Paul could have been echoed by Joseph Smith. Paul preached that the gospel had to be revealed by Christ and not a man or an angel. This is why we have additional scripture.
But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?

Radictis is absolutely right, the gospel we preach, teach, learn, and try to live by is not "different" or "contrary" to anything the bible teaches. The Bible and the Book of Mormon go hand in hand in teaching, doctrine and truth.
In church right now we are actually studying the New Testament, last year it was the Old Testament...do you think we would learn from both books if we didn't believe both to be the words of God?

As others have stated, and whether you believe it or not, Mormons don't believe their gospel is contrary to that proclaimed by the apostles or Christ. Religion is unique in that it is personal and an inidividual thing, based on faith. There is no objective evidence of its truthfulness (other than that which is objective to the individual). Because of this nature of religion it would be incorrect of one person, who interprets the Bible one way to say that someone else, whose interpretation is equally as believeable, is wrong. We must just respect each other and their right to believe as they will.

I think it's important to keep in mind that Revelations prophesied that the gospel would be taught in the last days by an angel:
Revelations 14: 6 "And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,"
People who read the Bible should be expecting the Gospel of Christ to come through some angelic ministry - frankly, I'm surprised we don't see more denominations claiming angelic beginnings.

Religions are not based on the written doctrines, but upon personal beliefs and convictions that are backed up by specific, selected pieces of that doctrine. Consider how many different religions look towards the bible for their source.
It is the people not the books!

I'd guess that they'd tell you that what is in the Book of Mormon isn't contrary to the Bible but merely "the rest of the story".
Considering that there is as much evidnece for the Mormon version of historay as there is for mainstream Christianity, that's as good an argument as any.

I'll tell you what I think about it as soon as you tell me how it is contrary to the Bible. And you know, I know several people who proclaim our religion to be true, and they sure aren't accursed. I think you are either sorely confused or attempting to stir up controversy.
