It is not consideed proof of payment unless it is written on the document somewhere showing that the invoice was paid in full and that it has a zero balance.

A sales invoice is a document used to show an item in a stores inventory that is being sold. It typically gives a description of the item, the quantitiy being sold, the price of the item being sold, applicable taxes and the total price of the item(s) being sold and to whom it is being sold to. Each company has it's own "in house" sales invoice so they will all vary, but generally this is what is listed.

For instance, you go and buy a television at an electronics store. They will typically write out an invoice for the tv with your name and address on it, the type of tv that your are buying (i.e. Sony 42" LCD tv), the price, $3,000.00, taxes $125.00, then a total $3,125.00 (tv+tax). This will be the amount that you must pay. When you pay for it, a cash register receipt is generated for the money that they take in. If you pay in full, they should annotate that on the invioce somewhere. Some have a stamp saying paid in full and the clerk intitials it or it's computed on the invoice. If this isn't written anywhere on the invoice showing payment in full, then you will need the cash register receipt showing that you paid the full amount.

If you have put the tv on layaway, companies sometimes will allow you to put a down payment on it, usually 10%, and then make payments on the tv. When you make payments, they will either annotate payments on the invoice or staple a duplicate receipt to the invoice giving you the other copy. Either way, the payments will be annotated on the invoice.

When you shop at the Supermarket do you always ask for the receipt? Most often - to check if you were not over charged or screwed in some way. Yes, a cash register receipt is considered legal.

I wouldn't think so. The invoice is only a bill and the receipt is acknowledgment of payment.

i don't think so, i think it only shows what the transaction should have been and the amount was owed, but no actual proof of payment.
