You know the thing you will be missing is the actual training part of the whole thing and it is the most important part.

How are you going to know if your technique is proper.

You need this mentoring in that it fosters the respect and disipline within the Martial Artist that makes him a Martial Artist, not just some self proclaimed bozo video ninja.

If you are to study, do some class time at a local community center at the Ymca, or at a commnity college.

They usually offer some type of martial arts classes and are not too expensive.

Peace, and Much Respect,

I've always trained for free, but unfortunately for you, that is because I have a friend who has trained and he teaches me. But I seriously wouldn't try to learn from a book or online, not if you really want to know what you are doing. Online can't give you feedback, can't tell you if you're doing it right or if you're gonna hurt yourself. You can't see what is being done from any angle (sometimes important) and it only gives you one option. I know my teacher frequently tells me "you can do it this way, or this this and also this will work too" Martial arts are a very visual thing, and if you really want to learn, I can't stress the importance of a good teacher enough.

It varies from YMCA to YMCA but at most you can learn taekwondo, tai-chi, kickboxing, boxing, etc. and if you dont have a membership just find someone who does, guest get to come in with members for free. Also, you can get really cheap memberships there if you are poor, a student, or disabled. As cheap as 10 bucks a month.

Thats about the best you are going to get without trying to find some instructional video online or a friend who is a high ranking black belt and is willing to train you just for being his friend.

If you are unable to leave your house, then this would be the best way for you to learn. If you can leave your house, then I suggest that you go to your local YMCA and look into their Martial Arts programs. If money is the biggest roadblock to your studying in a school, the YMCA will typically offer sponsorships to those who qualify.

If you learn on your own without the aid of a teacher, your mistakes will never be corrected and they will become bad habits.

You could also check out boxing gyms in your area.

why don't you just imitate some chop socky kung fu theatre movies-

at least then you won't delude yourself into thinking you are actually learning something.

you NEED a teacher. A teacher's most important role is not to show you what the move looks like, but to correct you when you are wrong. a manual or internet can't do that.

Also these minor corrections or suggestions that you are guaranteed to miss when looking at book or internet or video are what make the difference between the technique being good and working, and bieng crap.

With a book, video or internet- you are only learning how to "mimick" the technique, not how to really do it.

There are a handful of Kenpoist offering Kenpo Karate manuals on eBay. Some manuals are specific belt colors and others are from white through black belt.

To get a tastes of Kenpo go to youtube.com and search, Jeff Speakman, Frank Soto, Larry Tatum and Ed Parker just to name a few.

I hope this information is helpful, enjoy the demos and good luck.

I suggest you to not to go for training online. Better find a master and learn any style that will really help you to learn with out side effects.
