My pictures are over 1MB. I want to reduce them to around 100 to 200k. Thanks.

Open the image in Windows Paint, and then click File-Save As.

Then if you do not want to over-write the original, give it a new name and save it. You will find it is considerably smaller than the original.

If you use Outlook, then Outlook will ask you if you want to reduce the file size after you attach them to the email and before you send the files.

If you want to reduce them before attaching, then you will need a photo editing program. Chances are that your camera came with one of these that you can load on your computer. Find the "optimize" option in the menu and follow the directions. Every program is a bit different so you might have to check the help files to find out where the resizing option is located.

When taking pictures decide what you intend to do with the pictures. If you just intend to email them then reduce the file size before taking pictures. Your camera may have a menu for file size. Reduce it. If you have already taken a picture in 5 mega or larger and you want to email it then here's what you can do. Open the picture in Photoshop or Jasc Painshop Pro or any similar software. Then resize to a smaller size.

You have two locations where you can resize your photos.

The first location is within your camera. You can play around with the various formats on your camera to either tune down the resolution or change the file format and quality (jpeg tends to be best)

The second location is within your computer. In order to take a digital photo and change it's format and size into something smaller, you will need a program that edits images. Photoshop is a popular program, but is very expensive. I suggest you find the program called GIMP, which is an image manipulator program, and use it to resize your files and save them into a smaller format.

Good luck!
