A major concern with Vista before it was debuted was the fact that it's built so much differently than XP or any other previous Windows OS that your current software will have a hard time running on it. Also, older computers need to upgrade their hardware a lot of times just to be able to install Vista. Get a Mac.

I'm not surprised. There has been a lot of things on CNN news, etc. about it.
I don't think that it was perfected when it came out. I'm sorry you are having
problems. Go where you got the computer and tell them what is happening. It's
under warranty and it's up to them to fix it. Good luck. It is such an expensive
thing to buy a computer & have that happen. Is it possible to take the computer back?

Ck with Microsoft..I've heard Vista is memory hungry too and the recommendation was to wait until the issue service pack 1. Your old programs need vista compatable drivers..you can check with them if and see if they have them available. Good luck, I'm waiting for SP1.

Install Linux. I'm not being funny. It has similar "eye candy" available and it's a lot more stable, in addition to being free and generally requiring less memory.
