close your eyes or stare at a blank wall. All sorts of thoughts will come to mind... I read a book on meditation that said to think of the thoughts as leaves in a stream and to concentrate on the steam rather than the leaves. Don't get angry if your attention does get caught, the anger's just another leaf. The book also said a purpose for meditation might be to get out of your own ego, which is what you think about things, and life, and observations. And it takes a lot of practice; I try a few minutes everyday no matter what, sometimes more.

Meditation is like eating food. When you eat you have to chew something for a while before you swallow it. Likewise if you are studying scritures out of the bible. Think about the scripture and speak it over and over with your mouth or mind. Why? You are chewing on it. As you chew on it, you will find bits of revelations being revealed as the continue to think on the Word. So meditation is basically thinking about something over and over until, you recieved some revelation. I learned that if you a meditating on scriptures, don't leave that scripture until you have receive a revelation or insight from God. As you meditate on a scripture, your spirit is chewing on that Word and breaking it down until you are able to understand it.

I go home, relax, concentrate, and focus on anything that comes to mind. Meditation is just thinking. I tend to meditate on my day, and usually think of ways to better it. If there's a problem I'm wrestling with, I focus on it, and try to come up with solutions. All you do is just think but do it somewhere you can focus, and not be distracted.
I wish you the best, and I hope I was able to answer your question.

David spent quiet time alone thinking over and over about God's Word (day and night - Psalms 119: 15; 1:2).
