I have a 6 month old Jack Russell/Chihuahua. She is a active little thing. One of her traits is her big ears for her little body. For the past 5 months she would keep both of her ears up at all times. The past few days only one of her ears is up while the other one is flapped down. She raises it at times but now it's down over 95% of the time. Should I be concerned about this? She also has not been eating very much the last 3 days. Any advice for me?

Sound to me like she is teething. Dogs ears will tend to flop while teething, and they eat less, too. Moisten her food for a couple of weeks.

No, there is nothing wrong, that's normal. When a puppy is teething, their ears, do flop up and then back down. They also have less of an appetite when teething. Her ears, will most likely stand straight after she is done teething. Keep an eye on her eating habits. If you are feeding her dry food, it might help a little, if you add a little warm water to the food, until it becomes a little softer to chew. Her mouth may be a little sore from teethingl

I would be concerned about the eating situation. I recommend you take her to the vet. She's your puppy, and you love her. Get a professional to take a look at her. If there is a problem, the longer you wait, the better chance it has at becoming serious. You know her best, and if you think she is acting funny, or changing habbits (like how much she eats), then take her take her take her!!! It can be expensive, but I've been able to pay vet bills in payments in the past. I love my cat and dog so much, and they're worth every penny! Don't waste any more time, and take her to the puppy doctor!

Good luck!

ps- the ear thing is hopefully nothing more than added cuteness and character =)

Hi, no there is nothing wrong with the ears, sometimes the ears do that, what I usually do is to stick the ear with bostic glue so that it will stay in the position of a rose-y or half-brick ear, after about 2 days the bostic will become loose and the fold in the ear will be more permanent so that the ear won't fall down.

Yes you should be: I would definatley take her to the vet---when dealing with animals its not as easy as asking "whats wrong" if you notice a distinctive change you chould notify your vet---your dog meets that. Along with the fact that she hasnt been eating is a big concern. As common sense, when an animal slows eating, or stops--taking it to a vet

I'd check for ear mites...monitor to see if she shakes her head alot or trys to take her paw to scratch at it...either way, I'd go ahead and take her to the vet, just to be on the safe side
