I am planning a trip to visit Khmer ruins of Prasat Khao Phra Wihaan in Ubon in June. Is it too hot and too humid(rainy) to walk through this huge ruins? I will go there with my Thai friend and does she need a passport to enter this ruins? Thanks in advance.

Hi,...for your information the entrance of Khao Phra Viharn (proper spelling in Thai style) is in Buriram Province, but Ubon is not too far from Buriram and you can make a day trip from Ubon.
She will need to show her ID card when she is approaching the border which is just at the foot steps of Khao Phra Viharn. There is no formalities to visit that place for Thai people. If you are the foreigner.....you need to show them your passport too. I remembered that I was there with my American friend both of us doesn't need visa of Cambodia if just to visit that place, but there is still some fees which is not too much (sorry...i forgot the amount). June is supposed to be in the rainy season but you might be lucky as Thailand is so dried this year. Please don't worry about the humidity as this place is worth to visit. Just walk slowly and you will enjoy it. Have a good time there!

Hi, weather as you know by now is hot and humid and rainy too. But this will hopefully cool the otherwise hot temperature in the day.

As for the visit to Khao Phra Viharn, which is on the border with Cambodia, the way to the rocky top is from the Thai side, so your Thai friend need not bring passport for the trip. Technically you are all still in Thailand and overlooking into Cambodia.

As my friend told me, it is lovely there. Oh, place is in Si Sa Ket province, south of Ubon. Weather there should be pleasant.

Well, not sure I get this - why would a Thai person need a visa to enter Ubon? Its in Thailand...

And June is as good a month as any - you know it is the tropics, right? So, depending upon where you are from, it will probably be hot here for you, maybe a shower, but over all, a nice month to be here...
