Primitive humans needed something to explain the world around them. Unfortunately, that aspect of humanity hasn't evolved.

Gods were invented as a way to answer questions that people didn't have the scientific ability to answer.
As our knowledge has grown, the number of gods has decreased. We don't need a god of lighting, or fire anymore.
In fact, we don't need any gods anymore, which is a good thing as they never existed in the first place.
And we don't need religion anymore either. Religion was nothing more than a form of political control. Western civilization managed to wrest control from theocratic governments to form democracies. Our Dark Ages are over.
Unfortunately, in the middle east, theocratic governments are still largely in control. What we are witnessing now is the death throws of islam. The last days of the islamic Dark Ages is at hand.
The outcome is inevitable. Theocracies and religion will be defeated, and thrown onto the ash heap of history.

Oh, you mean the lower case 'g'? I think it started as a typo, then became slanderous.
It really is a good question, which I don't think there is a rational explanation for. It is not an idea supported in nature. If not in nature, I argue it is other than nature, or super nature, or supernatural.

From G_D, YHWH, YAHWEH Himself. Where do you think you came from?
What happens to you when you die? You turn to dust right? Science just proved recently that all chemicals in the human body can be found in dirt (chemicals, compounds, cross compounds, etc). And remember, not much to us for we are mostly water, something that can evaporate away once the rest is dirt.
(flips through book) He made us from the dirt and breathed life into us. Huh...there is that dirt part.
Ever see a baby be born? Whats the first thing it does when it comes out? Takes a breath? Huh, that's there too.
Then explain 1 simple thing out of the quad-trillion items on this earth. The human eye. Research it, for even science can't duplicate it and Darwin himself say due to the eye alone his entire theory is blown. (chapter 6, difficulties with the theory, in his book on Evolution and Species)

Fear of the unknown brought on by a severe lack of understanding about the nature of the universe that has since been remedied. The religious just can't accept it.

Do u mean to say, u don't believe in God??????
Since God created us, Prophet Adam (May God bless him) being the first and he was in heaven,he knew the true God. When he was sent to Earth and after he passed away and people started to worship the false Gods, started commiting sins, the rich humilated the poor and so on, God sent His messengers to lead the people to the Right Path.
If u still disbelieve in God or religion, plz click on the following link:

For those whose eyes are not blinded by appearances, and whose ears are not deafened by appetites, it is clear that the Idea of God emanates from within, being inherent in our exisence; for we are but outward Manifestations of the Spirit/Energy of God.

an explanation of the overwhelming forces of nature that ruled the lives of primitive people: floods, earthquakes, famines, etc.
it was though that the entities who created these events might have done so out of wrath, and might be appeased with sacrifices and worship.

He evolved. Originally, people looked to the sky and worshiped things they could see like the sun and the moon. Eventually, he evolved into a giant sky daddy.
