They don't want to possess, they already have! It is the goal of North Korea to annex the South. The problem that exists for the North, however, is their economy. It's in shambles and the people are starving. This is the primary reason they have withdrawn from nuclear expansion and popping off missles in the middle of the day. Japan was getting extremely irritated and China threatened to cut off aid. This problem wouldn't exist at all if our politicians had exercised a little brain power. North Korea's current nuclear know-how was supplied, for free, by the Clinton administration. Then Secretary of State Madelaine Allbright made the N. Noreans "promise" not to build weapons. They promised. And they lied. Allbright should've done her homework.

Kim Jung Il is a paranoid Communist leader, who has isolated the N. Korean people from the entire world. Those inside of N. Korea who are not Communist Party leaders live in appalling poverty. Millions of people, including children are malnourished and dying from even the simplest cured diseases.

He takes all international food and medical supplies and routes them to his military. He indoctrinates the N. Korean people in an ideal that everyone in free nations are evil and are a threat to N. Korea. He further agitates the situation by telling them that America and S. Korea are poised to attack them, and they are in need of nuclear deterrents to prevent the loss of their country and ideas.

What you have in N. Korea is a megalo-maniac in charge, and he is quite a dangerous character. And to think he could be in possession of nuclear arms is even more frightening.

it's a political thing, the US actually pays countries with nuclular arms to keep them from growing their armories and if they do have a nucluar weapon then they will be a nucular power which in turn gets them more respect in the international community and gives them more weight in the UN
