First, you should create a document in something like Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, etc.
If you have this free application on your PC (it's called PrimoPDF), it allows you to 'print' to a PDF file, look on the website for exact details but it is amazingly good, and completely free!

PDF files are a joke to begin with! They arent anything more than an image of text. Its like scanning a text document and saving it as an image. The amount of space they take is 100 times larger than the original text file. If you dont absolutely need it to be a PDF file which in most cases people dont, just scan it and send the image file.

This software is free, and adds a new 'Printer' to your system. To create a PDF, all you have to do is print like normal, and pick the PDFCreator printer instead of your normal printer. Easiest way I've found to do it.
