I have to get up at 7:30 tomorrow for class (plus I have an interview later in the afternoon), yet I can't make myself go to sleep. I'm exhausted beyond belief, but I do this almost every night! I find something on the internet (usually Yahoo!Answers) to keep me busy until 2, 3, 4, 5 in the morning. It's ridiculous! Why can't I stop doing this, and does anyone else have this problem?

I started this question out as sort of a fun one, but now that I think about it, I remember reading about internet addiction a while back. Does anyone believe this is a real and treatable condition?

this is a treatable condition and the only way to force yourself to sleep is to not think of anything else. Just keep in mind thayt you have to sleep now or else I will not have energy for tomorrow. I recommend you take a hot shower and drink a cup of milk before going to bed. It do help a lot and you can also take a sleeping supplement called "MELATONIN".

Internet addiction is a real danger lurking just around the corner. If you want to get sleep, try getting a warm shower 30 minutes before you are about to sleep. Then relax and just close your eyes. Don't eat much before your sleep time also.

i think you might be suffer from insomnia. it's probably all that anxiety you might sunconciously have.
1. drink milk when you want to sleep. something in milk triggers sleep neurons (i can't remember the scientific terms).
2. taking showers/bath before bedtime to get you relaxed.
3. don't do anything vigorous before bedtime (ex: running)
4. try not to consume stimulants (ex: coffee)
5. it might be your biological clock is off. usually everyone has a routine they go through everyday including what time they wake up, what time to eat, and what time to sleep. it might take a while to adjust. if you can't adjust it yourself within the next few weeks, go see a doctor.

it's a serious issue. sleep is one of the most important needs along with water, oxygen, and food. hopefully this helps.

I think I'm the same way. You should shut your computer off and what I do is play games on my cell phone while laying in bed. If it helps, disconnect the dsl cables on the back of your computer so that if you get bored or restless laying in bed and want to get back up on the internet, you'll think twice before having to reconnect those cables as exhuasted as you already are. also, try to force your eyes to stay shut for five minutes while in bed. you'll more than likely fall asleep easier and faster than you think. and DONT think of tomorrow, it wont do you any good anyway.
