You need to keep the area clean. Rather than just pull the gauze off, as it may reopen the wound, soak it while you are in the shower, that way it should just fall off. Dab the area dry and put on a fresh gauze. Not to change the gauze may cause an infection.

Not removing the gauze shouldn't cause major pain!!! The wound area maybe infected. Dr's. generally tell u to either keep the gauze on & area dry or change it after a day or 2. If the gauze is off check the area for redness & heat feel around where the redness is if hot can be sign of infection. If need to take gauze off soak under warm water & gently take off, wash with antibiotic soap & cool water, dry well by patting dry & reapply dry gauze. Should be checked if pain worsens. Did u get any discharge papers with wound care instructions on them. Go to ER if worried my need antibiotic if not on one. hope this helps- feel better-be safe Luv Donna P

Yes, if the gauze was unintentionally left in and the wound should close up, than it becomes a foreign material that the body starts to reject.
Whether it was medical surgery, dental surgery, etc. Infection can rapidly build up and become a serious issue.
If the gauze was placed there to help drain the wound, then no, it is intended to serve this purpose.
If the gauze is just covering the wound you should check with your doctor as to how long you need to keep it covered. The gauze itself doesn't cause pain...

The gauze could indirectly be a problem. The most likely issue is a problem under the gauze with the wound that you cannot see. Pain after a procedure could relate to infection or part of the wound coming apart. I would speak with the doctor that did the procedure so you can get advice as to how to handle this.

the gauze will fall off in the normal course, and, it's better left that way: it may not cause pain, unless a fresh infection sets in -- that needs a check up!

maybe...but its better to let it fall by itself..the body is healing and the clotted blood is creating new skin...when the healing process is done..the gauze should fall on its on...don't pull it or rip it off...might open up the wound or pull out stitches...get better soon

Sure if it gets infected, follow your Dr. instructions to the letter, there's a reason they go to school most of their adult lives. :)
