Please don't yell.
They aren't the smartest people, they're widely accepted as the most money savvy people. Atheists are actually the smartest because they have nothing holding them back but themselves. Most of the greatest scientists (with the highest IQ's) in this world are Atheists.
There is no biblical significance unless you choose to invent one or twist something to mean something it doesn't.

Yes they are God's chosen people and He said I will Bless those that Bless Isreal.
