I've always thought God healed instantly. But I'm learning he will sometimes heal you in stages from the inside out. Does anyone know why?
Nothing helped for my Social Anxiety, but since praying I've made great changes. I still have areas to work on, but my improvement has been significant.

Simon, to my knowledge social anxiety and agoraphobia are two different things. Social anxiety is fear of social situations where one is watched and judged based on what they say or do. Agoraphobia is fear of panic attacks in places where escape may be difficult. The fear is of the panic attack in public, not the social performance.

Dear AdvicePlease, I'm sorry to hear that nothing has worked for you. But there is hope. I am living proof that God can provide relief and heal even social anxiety.

Dear Cathy, The Word of God tells us, that the Lord answers prayers of those who love him with all their hearts, soul, and mind, live according to his Word, and pray in agreement with his will.
Examples:
John 15: 7 - If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you.
John 14:13 - And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father.
Matthew 21:22 - If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.
Thus, praying to be released from fear and other forms of bondage, will allow one to fulfill the plan God has for their lives. This is a prayer in agreement with the Lord. Our Father will provide for all our needs, if we trust him completely, and have Faith in His Power and Love for us. I've also responsed to private emails you've sent me, and a few of your questions here on the board. :)

i think if God healed you all at once, you wouldn't learn nearly as much. i was extremely shy in high school and i used to pray about it all the time...eventually i made a small group of friends, and now that I'm in college, I'm more outgoing than i used to be....i hope you continue to get better!

Social anxiety can cause these feelings, which can also lead to severe depression,
http://www.socialanxietyinstitute.org/ds...
if not you could be suffering from Generalized Anxiety
Disorder..http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/general_anx...
There is hope; I've been there, and still am there, it is a long, hard struggle. I recommend
Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/cognitive_b... worked best for me, with mild anti-anxiety meds. I suffered from social anxiety for over 15 years. I've tried individual therapy, and group therapy and studied psychology for 10 years, as a profession, but also with the hope to cure myself.
Depending on your comfort level, you could go to a psychologist that practices CBT and specializes in anxiety disorders, seek a group therapy, or create one. Usually those that do attend the group therapy are a bit more high functioning because as you know, it can be difficult to speak in a group.
Another idea is to see if there are any local research studies being conducted that you could participate in.
The program that finally worked the best for me is this one: http://www.socialanxiety.us/findinghelp.... and I was lucky enough to have a structured behavioral group to go along with it. Sometimes the people that actually attend this program come back home and form groups.
I recommend a mild anti-anxiety med in addition to CBT therapy.
Any questions, let me know ... I can't tell you how much this has improved my life!

Ok....antipressants can be dangerous for young ppl under the age of 17 to take. As for medications that can help with anxiety and depression...I have had success with Effexor XR and Trazodone. Both are used to treat both symptoms you mentioned. I have been diagnosed with Clinical Depression and SAD (Social anxiety disorder). The Effexor and Trazodone have allowed me to function again. I am in sales so having anxiety about being in social situations really wasn't working out real well. It sounds to me like you need to speak to a professional about the issues you are having. Be sure to do a lot of research and get educated about the different medications available on the market right now. Cymbalta is supposed to be good for treating both the emotional & physical symptoms of depression. Also be active in your treatment and don't be afraid to seek help. You can get help and live a normal life. I am!

Yes, Jesus helped me personally! And there will be no body to convince me that God doesn't exist, because I've experienced Him in my life! Only prayer now helps me! Sometimes when things get really tough, I pray openly and honestly and God fills me with such joy, I could never be able to describe how good it feels! It feels good when God lets me that He, the Creator, the Almighty God who made all things is on my side! It's amazing! And those people who don't believe in God lose their lives, sadly.... that's why God calls them the blind... all they care about is their career, their success, money, boyfriends/girlfriends, drama, you name it... but what's in the end of their life? Emptiness...

prayers don;t work that way you don;t bargin or ask for things like money or healing or this or that.
Prayer is about feeling God's love around you and finding the strength within yourself.

Sorry, I thought you were the same person who'd posted a similar question with "Agorophobia" earlier.
