A biopsy just means that they are taking a sample of something so that they can look at it under the microscope. They must have found something abnormal, or they would not be doing a biopsy, but it could be many things other than cancer. I can understand why your parents might not want to tell you anything until they know what is going on, but I also understand that not knowing can be worrisome as well. I hope the results come back soon so that you can all talk about what is going on. I especially hope that it is nothing serious.

A biopsy is just another test of an area that is "under suspicion". Sounds to me like the docs are doing a fine job of trying to rule out what ever it is they are looking for or think they know what something might or might not be....
these kinds of tests and proceedures that you are describing are standard for any part of the body that shows up as either suspicious or "abnormal".
Try not to panick yet...a biopsy doesn't necessarily mean cancer. This is just one of the final tests that docs do to rule this out if it can be ruled out. A biopsy of anything will definetely tell them what exactly it is and what type of whatever it is.
It's better to be safe than sorry and to be informed of these types of things. That is the only way the proper treatment can follow.
I hope all is well and I hope I've answered your question.

Well, you haven't given us a whole lot of info probably bc you don't have a whole lot of info. A biopsy is when they take a piece of tissue (in this case the pancreas). The tissue sample is then sent to a lab where a special medical doctor called a pathologist makes it into a microscope slide and looks under the microscope to see if there is any evidence of cancer or another disease. Tell your parents calmly that if they hid things from you, you just get more worried and that as a family you have to stick together. Be kind and understanding bc even though they are adults, they get worried and sad too. BTW, listen to the doctor's advice. When he/she says to not smoke, drink alcohol or to eat less fat and sugar, don't laugh. He/she is trying to help the patient.

If a biopsy is being done then there is something there that is suspicous looking. IF and I say IF since you don't know anymore info then you do, but IF there is a cancer on the pancreas it could be serioous. The pancreas is what produces insulin for our bodies and should that stop working then it can be very serious. A person can not live without their pancreas. Give them time they will tell when they are ready.

It sounds like your parents told you just enough to worry you.
A biopsy isn't a sure reason to think something it wrong.
Although there needs to be reason for a doctor to do a biopsy. So, there must be some concern.
The biopsy might just show scare tissue or a non cancerous tumor that is nothing to worry about.
True there could be bad news. But, please don't worry too much until there is really something to worry about.
I would suggest you talk openly to your parents and tell them that you are old enough to understand there might be something to worry about and ask them if they will please be open with you.

A biopsy doesn't necessarily mean it is cancer, it just means they're trying to find out for sure. Try not to worry just yet, but it might help to talk to your parents. Tell them that NOT KNOWING what's happening is scaring you.
If it makes you feel any better, it sounds like they're taking good care of him.

A biopsy means there is an area of suspicion and it is being further analyzed to know EXACTLY what is being dealt with. I am guessing someone has a mass on/near or around their pancreas....this is getting more and more common...you simply have to wait for the biposy results to know if it is cancer or not.
