Is it a better value to go to Mexico or the Bahamas/Carribean?

I'm a student trying to stretch my dollar for a week+ long trip. When would the best time be to go?

You get more "bang for the buck " in Mexico. Hotel, shopping & food is cheaper, and there is more to do and see.

Carib is fun with a group, but its strickly beach and nightlife, which you can do in Mexico for less.

Sep/Oct is the cheapest time for these places, but that is becase there are so few tourists. Spring break the places explode with partiers, but so do the prices.
