hot salt pack
I also suggest a drop of warm garlic oil into the ear, its a natural antibiotic that I used for my sons cronic ear infections when traditional treatment wasn't working. He never had another one.

If your ear still hurts and today was your last day on antibiotics, your antibiotics probably did not work and you should go to the doctor again. Is there an After Hours clinic that you could go to instead of the ER? I know what kind of pain you're in and I feel for you. When I had this it helped to put drops in my ear and tug at the lobe or to just let water run into your ear. If you plan on toughing it out, take some tylenol pm or something that will help you sleep and sometimes it helps to lay on the ear that hurts (unless of course you have an outer ear infection too). Good Luck

Like has been said, some form of Ibuprofen will help. Have had this many times and have never heard of a doctor giving anything narcotic for ear infections. It is only temporary although painful.

Ibuprofen for inflamation or tylenol and a bit of cotton in your ear to keep the air from aggravating it is about all I can think of. Check WebMD site

Motrin is good. If you have Advil take 3, that is how much a prescribed one is. Sounds odd but works, lay, sore ear down, on a heating pad.
I'm going through this now!

When my little boy's ear hurt with an ear infection I would give him some Tylenol and then press a warm damp facecloth onto his ear, it seemed to work =]
