Warm water helps open up the pores, which can make for a closer shave. A cool rinse and some aftershave will help close them back up to help prevent infection.

Personally I feel that good shaving effect is a combination of multiple things that are using while shaving - 1. the razor, 2. the shaving cream 3. type of beard & skin that you have

1. Razor - Mach 3 / or Power (Mach 3 with power) blade are great when it comes to shaving. The razor has its life - one should not use it for quite a long time or after some time once the blade loses sharpness - you dont get quality shave

2. Shaving cream - Gillette has many options depending on your skin & beard type - like they have normal beard, hard beard - based on which shaving cream you use the effect from the razor is different

3. Your skin type - see if you have a hard beard, oily /smooth skin then you need similar cream

Once done selecting your range - the final part is shaving the beard. Its ideal to have your razor and brush dipped in warm to hot water for around 3 minutes before applying. Best shave time would be after your bath. Wipe your face dry and apply shaving cream. Then use the brush and apply. Preferably do not use wet skin to apply the cream. The foam should be quite thick and then shave preferable up-down motion (follow the same motion each time you shave).

I think you could get the best shave based on the suggestion that I have given.

Any comments?

Warm water will soften up the skin and hairs giving a closer shave but you probably won't get a good shave with a crummy razor even if you did use warm water. I use a Gilliette Mach3 turbo and I found that it doesn't really matter how cold or hot the water is, I still get a spanking good shave with it.

Beard hair is about as tough as copper wire; soften it by washing your face and neck with warm water and a mild soap, removing natural oils and perspiration that make it difficult for water to soak into the skin. After approximately three minutes of soaking, your beard hair will be optimally softened; in fact, the force required to cut beard hair is reduced by almost 70 percent after only two minutes.

So it is better to use the warm water for the better quality and effective shave..

I feel the best is warm water any season anytime as warm water has the potential to soften the skin and thereby helps in having a clean shave and the result is softer and smoother skin and with Gillette Mach 3 your growth of hair will prolong as it is a great product.

Yes...Warm water definitely is better as it helps in softening of coarse hair and lead to easy shave with no nicks or cuts or abrasions...it opens up pores and hence helps in close shave of hair so the re-growth of hair takes a little longer...
Splashing cold water after a shave again helps in closing the pores...giving a soothing relief to the skin...
