I just recently got a tattoo on my lower back last week and I've been using vitamin A+D ointment to relief the itch but it doesn't really work. I have some Sarna anti-itch steroid-free lotion with me but I dont' know if it's okay to use it or not. Any idea anyone?

A trick that's helped me a lot besides slapping is cold lotion. Get a water-based unscented lotion [Lubriderm and Curel tend to be highly recommended; I don't know anything about Sarna so I can't say whether or not that one in particular would be a good idea] and keep it in the fridge. Apply some whenever the tattoo gets too itchy, but make sure you don't put too much or your skin won't be able to breathe. If you accidentally apply more than you should, blot it with a clean paper towel. My self-control is practically non-existent when it comes to itchiness, so this one has definitely been saving me.

follow these instructions every tat. dont use a&d. everyone i hear from that has a problem throws in and "and i use A&D"

Take bandage off in 2 hours
Wash tattoo carefully with warm soapy water
DO NOT SCRUB
Lightly pat the tattoo until dry…
DO NOT RUB
Apply a very thin coat of bacitracin or aquaphor ointment 3 times a day for 3 to 5 days
Although re-bandaging a tattoo is not recommended, if covering the tattoo is necessary a sterile bandage or dressing should be used.
Be sure and wash the tattoo every night and morning…
DO NOT SOAK
Avoid tattoo exposure to direct sunlight and refrain from swimming in fresh, salt or chlorinated water for at least 2 weeks.
After External Healing

Tattoos heal quickly BUT fading can still be a problem
Apply hand lotion once a day until dryness stops
Vaseline Intensive Care, Lubriderm, Nivea, etc...
Tanning fades tattoos
Always cover fully healed tattoo with sun block
DO NOT RUIN YOUR INVESTMENT!!!

Bepanthen cream in my opinion the best for tats.
just don't scratch you will pull the colour out.
If for some reason you cannot purchase Bepanthen cream lanolin is also go or anything heavy like that as it creates a barrier to hold the moisture in and takes a while to absorb, just don't get it on your clothes because it mat not come out!

When I got my ta too, I was told to use only Basetrasen Cream on it. Nothing else. Nothing with any kind of oil in it at all. I was also told to slap (not hard) my ta too when it itched, instead of scratching it. The itching just means its healing. Once it's healed, it shouldn't itch any more.

Don't use that sarna stuff for your tattoo. Try neosporin
antibiotic ointment . It helps with the itch. The itching is
part of the healing process.

A+D is not meant to relieve the itch. it is meant to aid in healing. don't put anything on it for the itching. just deal with it. when the skin heals it itches. it should only last for a few days. just pat it and try to ignore it.
