A GOOD FIGHT BUT NO WAY IT WAS THE DEFINING MOMENT IN HAGLER CAREER. I REALLY THINK THAT SUGAR LET THIS FIGHT INFLUENCE HIM TO BELIEVE THAT HE COULD BEAT HAGLER.

Maybe not the greatest of all time, but definitely in the elite class and in the top ten. It was an absolute war, and Hagler beat Mugabe down, no one else wanted anything to do with Mugabe, Hearns gave Mugabe a quarter million for the privilege of not having to step into the ring with him, "the beast" was that good. Only Marvin Hagler could have won a war of attrition with Mugabe, it was an incredible example of determination and heart. The defining moment in Marvin Hagler's career.

Hagler is my favorite fighter of all time and when he fought the beast he broke him down physically which wasn't no easy task. If I remeber correctly Mugabi was like 26-0 with 25 KOs. But Hagler had the tough fights before and was both mentally and physically strong as any fighter I have ever seen. Unbeleivable exchanges in this fight and any lesser fighter would have wilted way before Mugabi's body couldn't take any more in the 11th. I personally beleive this fight ruined Mugabi who was predicted by the experts to be at the top for a long time.

the fight against Juan Domingo Roldan (haglers first time getting knocked down) and the fight against the beast were absolute wars... I remember them clearly...what a lot of people dont realize is that they body pounded each other (Mugabe and Hagler) so brutally that they were passing (pissing) blood for days afterwards...a good friend of mine was in camp with Curry and Hagler in palm springs as Hagler was preparing for the fight with Hearns and told me what I already suspected...that Marvin was one of the hardest working, respectful and easy to respect fighters that he had ever encountered...
