I heard somewhere recently that if a person was to stop eating meat, they could lose 10-15 pounds rather quickly. I am wondering this because my fiance put on some pounds after a surgery and is now working out trying to drop the extra weight. The problem is, he is stuck. He lost about 10 pounds and has stayed at his weight for about two and a half weeks. He works out 5 days a week (lifting every other day and cardio every day). If he took meat out of his diet, would he shead a few more pounds faster? And if so, why is that?

No. He needs to take in less calories than he's using up, but it doesn't matter what kind of calories they are. In other words, if you cut out 200 calories of meat or 200 calories of donuts, it's the same in relation to total calories taken in.

I don't eat red meat, but it's not for weight purposes. However, meat is one of the easiest, best sources of protein. If he's lifting and exercizing, he does need protein to help him be in optimum shape. Actually, everyone does! If he cuts out meat, he'll need to get his protein from other foods, and it's highly likely that he'll still be taking in at least the same amount of calories, possibly even more. Therefore, he won't lose weight any faster.

If he's eating junk food, like simple carbohydrates (candy, white sugar foods), or foods with trans fats or high in saturated fats, those would be the foods to stop eating. They aren't necessary for good nutrition.

Since he's working out so much, it's possible that he's losing the fat he gained, but building muscle. If that's the case, the scale isn't going to move a lot, yet he'll be healthier and in better shape. He should look at how his clothes are fitting, how much firmer he is, rather than what the scale is saying.

Your boyfriend shouldn't try to do anything to his diet that he won't be able to stick with. That's the number 1 reason diets fail. Instead, tell him to add ankle and wrist weights to his cardio workout. Eating less, or no meat reduces weight just like reducing or excluding any other food works. It works as long as you don't substitute other high fat, high calorie foods.

That was probably on some pro vegetarian website. The truth is that lean meats will provide you the best source of complete proteins. Have your fiancee cut out fatty meats, eat chicken, turkey.

Definately not. If he wants to he can stick to chicken breast and fish that pretty good and no red meat. It sounds like hes working out alot and maybe hes just building muscle.
