I tried Lexapro for A week then stoped because I was scared of having Suicidal thoughts. I wasn't having any, I was just scared the medication would twist my head and make me go crazy. (Like in stories online *SSRI suicideS*) My BIGGEST fear is to die, and I think about it 24-7, THATS why i need medication. BUT I really dont want to go crazy and end up jumping off A bridge or hanging myself like other people have done on this medication.

MY QUESTION IS ::: Is all these stories about teens killing themselves really true?? I dont have depression, I HAVE SEVERE anxiety about everything...and of coarse now seeing all the stories online, its making me not want to try my medication, that could acually help. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

If you read closely on the side effects contained in your medication, you will see that most suicidal tendencies occur when the patient stops taking his medication abruptly. Read the inserts and side effect information included with your prescription. And remember the doctor always knows what is best.

unfortunately these stories are true. But you must realize that you are at a greater risk of suicide if you are severely depressed and do nothing about it. It usually takes about a month or two of being on an antidepressant before you start to really feel any effects from it. This is good or bad effects. I have had severe depression for years and only realized it in November when i lost a child. i am now on zoloft and it is helping. before that i was very suicidal and started to cut myself just to feel anything. Since i have been on the medication it has helped a great deal. However if you are worried that being on medication alone is going to make you have suicidal thoughts or if you are already feeling that then maybe a combination of medication and conceling would help you. If you go on a medication and you still feel depressed after being on it at least a month then that is a sign that you need to change the dosage or the medication itself and your doctor can help you with this. It is very norrmal for people that go on antidepressants to have to try several ones before they see a huge difference. Hang in there and definately talk to your doctor. Good luck.

You need to read up on the medication prescribed to you. If you read about Lexapro you'll see that it takes longer than 7 days to work. I don't think that any doctor would prescribe you a medication that is going to make you suicidal!
If you are concerned keep a diary with your thoughts and feelings, if what you write concerns you then show it to your doctor don't abruptly stop the medication
Good luck

That is so incredibly rare. There isn't any need for you to worry about it. Lexapro is pretty much the most fail-safe anti depressant out there. It may take a couple weeks to work, but you have to just keep at it. Let yourself feel better every time you take it, or treat yourself to something nice when you do. And if you haven't been able to convince yourself that you really want to die, then you won't be able to.
