Ephesians 6 talks about principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness of this world, and spiritual wickedness in high places. I beleive that this refers to different levels of demons and angels. Some are assigned to specific regios, some to specific areas, and some to specific people (the same demons could potentially follow the same person around for their entire life).

Is there at least one angel around us at all times?
Scripture speaks of cherubim (not necessarily angels) being appointed to mankind. If you want Scripture email me. I image there is at least one Angel around our proximity at all times. However, how we conceive distance and how the spiritual world understands distance is different I am sure.
Is there ate least one demon around us at all times as well?
Sure seems it could be a possibility. But as far as Scripture is concerned it is silent on this issue. Therefore I will not answer assuredly in either direction.
One angel vs. 5 demons?
First what you said you heard is also not in Scripture. So I wouldn't believe something unless it is CLEARLY testified in Scripture. And again the answer is "i don't know" I imagine at times this is true but I also imagine it could be the other way around as well. (5 angles, 1 demon)
Are they always fighting?
There is in fact a Spiritual war going on. If you read Ephesians 6, you will figure that out real quick. I think it is an ongoing battle. However, not everything in your life, decisions, sufferings, etc, can be attributed to the spiritual realm, that is to an angel or a demon. A lot of what happens in this life is due to the natural realm and the consequences of our decisions.

1. Yes at least one.
2. No, demons like angels have a hierarchy and the ones not on a specific assignment, just go looking for where they can cause trouble. (And sometimes just the sight of a powerful angel will be enough to send the running)
3. No there aren't 5 demons to one Angel...the Angel or Angels guarding God's children are very protective and some times it will be more like 5 angels to one demon so the demon will just flee.
4. Not always, but they are on guard and can be at any moment. Prayer & praise are what gives them strength. If the believer's faith is weak and he or she is not trusting the Lord, it gives the demons a foothold to sneak in and cause trouble.

God tells us that our angel has the face of God when needed, meaning that all the angel has to do is say " Hey God, so and so is in trouble" and it can be taken care of in whatever way He sees fit. Demons are also angels but on the wrong side. Two thirds of God's children followed satan out of their home, so it couldn't be 5 to 1. They are out numbered. Yes, satan's little cronies are trying to get Christians because they know they already have the others but it doesn't mean they are behind every bush or around each corner and besides, Christians have the power to step on the serpents because God lives in us so it's not a problem. Hope this helps clear something up for you. Read The Word to find out more. It's interesting. Peace! :) Sorry, I meant 1 third!!!!!

Yes, both are among us. Ephesians 5 tells us, more powerful is He that is in me (God's Holy Spirit) than he that is in the world (Satan).
We do have guardian angels. In Matthew 18:10. Jesus said, See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.
There are several different types of angels. Some have appeared as men, like at Sodom and Gomorrah.
Here are some verses concerning angels. Personality and Intellect (1 Peter 1:12), Emotions ( Luke 2:13), Spirits (Hebrews 12:22), Invisible (Collations 1:15), Wise (1 Peter 1:12), Don't die (Luke 20:36), Don't all have wings (Luke 24:47, Beautiful (Ezekiel 28:13,17), Ranked in classes (1 Timothy 5:21; Ephesians 3:10-11).
Angels are not to be worshiped. They are God's messengers. Their ministry is: They were active in the life of Christ (birth,Jude 6; temptation, Matthew 4; protection, Matthew 25:53; resurrection, Matthew 28:2,5-7; return, Acts 1:11). Judging unbelievers (Acts 12:23). Active in evangelism (Luke 15). Revealing God's truth to mankind (Revelations 10). Whatever God desires them to do (Psalms 103:20.

I believe there are plenty of angels to go around for the believers. As far as demons, I think they get around but remember that they are out numbered 2 to 1 (only one third of the host of heaven fell). I think that demons more or less use gorilla tactics as not to be seen directly.

We know that there are angels and we know that there are demons - cause they are talked about in the bible. However, the bible doesn't go into very much detail about either.
I prefer to go with the way Frank Peretti describes them in his books. In his books, angels and demons are always fighting over us. The demons rejoice in our despair and the angels rejoice in our salvation and realization of Jesus' love for us. Angels get stronger as the saints (us christains) pray or praise God. As far as numbers, it depends on the person.
His books are really good! "This Present Darkness" and "Piercing the Darkness" are his first big hits. You can get them both at your public library.
Since this subject interests you, you might enjoy his stories. I prefer to that, since I'm a christain, that angels are always around me protecting me from demons and wanting good things for my life. Unfortunately, this is one of the questions that won't be answered till we get to heaven.

Matthew 18:10 tells us our Angels face does always behold the face of God.I believe we have our own personal Angel.
Demons are all around us ,but they can't stay in the mist of Praise.
Praise is the power we have to fight demons.
We only need one Angel against many Demons.
But if we need 10,000, they will come.
