Menu Foods' three U.S. and one Canadian factory produce more than 1 billion containers of wet pet food a year. The recall covers pet food made at company plants in Emporia, Kansas, and Pennsauken, New Jersey, Henderson said. (http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/03/17/petfood.recall.ap/index.html)

Canada makes a smaller percent of it. There are more Menu plants is the United States. The recall was voluntary and not forced. Certain factors made the company recall all of its cuts with gravy due to the illnesses. Here is a good suggestion, don't purchased any cuts and gravy made between Dec, 2006 and March, 2007. All of these products have been recalled and should no longer be on shelves at your local stores. The FDA is working with Menu to find the exact cause. They believe that it is in the wheat gluten. Since the recall, Menu has changed who they get this product from. I have since started buying their product again and haven't had any problems. Go to www.menufoods.com/recall for a complete listing of all dog and cat food labels that have been recalled. Please consider that this can happen with any manufacturer and not just them. It can even happen with our food. Remember the spinach recall? This company does care about their products and the safety and health of your animals.

They not only make the brands that were on the list, but some of the canned foods from even higher quality brands as well. My pet food is Breeder's Choice Pinnacle brand. I found out that Menu Foods have made a small amount of their canned food as well. Also some of Wellness brand cat and dog food is made their as well. However, I received this email from them...so I don't know what to think.
"Menu does make some of our canned cat and canned dog foods. They make OUR recipes according to OUR quality standards.
We have procedures in place to clean between each run of food that is produced. We also inspect the plant regularly to audit their procedures. Since we take our quality very seriously we go above and beyond what is expected in the industry. We are happy to tell you that we require our facilities to pass an audit by Cook & Thurber, a HUMAN FOOD auditing firm. They have a great website that explains what they do and their strict requirements. They can be found at www.cookandthurber.com"

No there were no Purina products or many other products. There were a huge amount form Menu foods. That's a surprise isn't it! Even brands like Nutro, Eukanuba and Iams, which self-identify as premium brands. Also for a truly premium brand there is Wysong, which is definitely made in the USA.

Menu Foods only makes wet and moist foods. It doesn't make the dry food sold by the major brands.

They do make a lot of it. It is just amazing to me that Ol Roy and Eukanuba are made in the same plant, with the same ingredients. Most of it is not made in Canada though, it is made in the US.
