lots of small shops across the street from the Grand Palace, but if you must have western food, a short walk from the Grand Palace is the Royal Hotel you could always go there. One more thing, if you follow that guys advice on how to get to the grand palace it's going to take you hours and I hope you can stand the smell from the canals. it's cheaper, but penny wish pound foolish. I still advise taxi, it will be no more then 120 baht from your hotel.

There are many good eats around the Grand Palace. As long as it is not a lavish restaurant, the food will be cheap and affordable, very much affordable. And they will be as good as what you can get in the expensive restaurants, minus the presentations.

Do check out the side lanes, this is where you get eating gems.

I would recommend you to go to the "Royal Navy Club House". It is just next to the Grand Palace and located at "Ta Chang Pier". It is open for everybody. Good food, reasonable price and clean too. You will enjoy watching the boats passing by on the Chao Phra Ya River.

There are many though they may not look as decorative as those restaurants in star hotels, but the food is a lot tastier in those tiny eateries than in those posh restaurants!
