The first thing that comes to mind is a soft touch and a calm that pervades everything the gentle person does. They don't get riled up about things that most people throw fits about (like waiting in traffic or in long lines at the supermarket), as these are things that they can't change. They have a certain maturity that enables them to face problems logically and with wisdom. They seek peace. They speak softly and think before they speak, so that they don't offend others. They are wonderful people to be around--you feel safe and secure around them.
Few people are gentle these days. It's hard to be so in today's world. I applaud your goal to be more so. Good luck.

Treating others softly is the definition of gentleness. Being sensitive towards others is just one fruit among many of the presence of the Holy Spirit. These fruit should come automatically if you have God's Spirit abiding in you. If you want to be more gentle, than fill yourself with the Lord's Spirit more. First off, you have to ask Him, Then the Bible says that we can build ourselves up by praying in tongues, Also by meditating on whatsoever is lovely, pure, and just. By reading God's Word. By making melody in our hearts unto the Lord by singing Hymns, psalms, and Spiritual songs. By not grieving the Holy Spirit. By putting a watch over our eyes, ears, and tongues. If we try to do these things on our own, we fail, but with the power of the Holy Spirit, all things are possible.

A gentle person is one who can whack a puppy's nose with a rolled-up newspaper with no malice, purely as a teaching tool. A gentle person can stop a raging torrent of invective simply by looking up and nodding, saying "I understand." A gentle person can stand without pushing or being pushed. A gentle person is egoless and not easily shocked. Gentleness often belies a strong heart and extraordinary understanding. I do not take this from the Bible, but from my own understanding of a person who is strong without being overbearing or pushy, someone who puts others first and shows true concern. I hope that helps clarify.

In the context of the bible, gentle is the same as being humble. It means denying the ego, the selfish boastfull and prideful part of self and identifying with the altruistic compassionate part of self.
