I too am a misplaced Texan so I know the agony you are experiencing. Forget about catching 10+ lbs largemouth. Walleye and all Trout species fishing is great in Wyoming.

You can find a wide variety of fish in Wyoming, it is a huge state. A big factor of what you are going to fish for will be where you move to and how far you want to drive to go fishing.

The trout fishing is really good in Wyoming. Over around Casper, the North Platte River has some excellent Rainbows.

They have some excellent fishing in some of the lakes over there as well, even some great Carp fishing.

A word of caution about Wyoming land/water rights. Landowners actually own the land under the river. Many of those people have posted their land as No Trespassing, which means you can not walk on the river bottom, you can not drop an anchor from a boat onto their river bottom, you can only fish as you drift over their land. They have marked the rivers with posts to show you which ‘land’ meaning river bottom and the surrounding land is public land and which is private. Pay close attention to those signs. Get a copy of the game laws and read them well.

It depends on what part of Wyoming you plan to live in. Casper has numerous fishing areas in the surrounding areas. You can find Catfish near the Johnson Power Plant near Glenrock. Trout and Walleye is found at Alcova and Pathfinders. As for the rest of Wyoming, I only know Glendo use to be great fishing until the Greenies (people from Colorado) took over. Now we from Wyoming don't usually go to Glendo anymore. But you are welcome to fish wherever you want. Good luck. *smiles*

I was there several years ago and I had fine luck with just a plaintrod, reel and bucket o' worms. Good Luck!
