Don't panic -- Whiskas brand is okay, also any dry food you have. The recall only applies to "cuts and gravy" type foods, either in cans or pouches. Check the Menu Foods website under "Product Recall" for a full list of brands & types. Purina's website should also give you a listing. Also, this recall only applies to products within a certain date range, and as far as I know, Canada did not receive any of the suspect product.

The brands you listed are safe. Menu doesn't make these. Menu only recalled all canned and pouched cuts and gravy style dog and cat foods. They think the wheat gluten is the cause so keep this in mind. Do you know where the wheat gluten in your types of cat food is from? I hope they aren't using the same supplier as Menu did. After the stores receive new product, rest assure it has been extensively tested and safe again. Sorry to the folks who have lost an animal. It's heartbreaking.

Dry food is OK--only canned gravy food is part of the recall. I work in a store and we had to pull Iams for cats, but I know Walmart's brand (Special Kitty) has killed at least one cat in my area.
Here is a link to the site of the recall--they list all the food brands involved. I don't remember seeing Friskies or Whiskas on the recall...I personally feed my cat Friskies and I was careful to check if that brand was on the list.
If your pet is showing any signs: vomiting, excessive water drinking, if he is lethargic--contact your vet right away.

Friskie's is not on the list but I had a six year old cat die a little over a week ago from all the symtoms of Kindey Faluire and Friskie's wet food was all she ate so I would advise not feeding your cat that Brand.
As for the Meow Mix hairhair remedy I have three cats that eat it and they seem to be fine so far but I think it's just the wet food that's affected.

I would not feed any canned or wet foods at this time. Mine were eating friskies and started throwing up and laying around the house. It is not on the recall, but I will be taking at least one cat to the vet tomorrow, because after 3 days of being off soft food, he is still not acting right. He just wants to sleep. DO NOT TRUST ANY SOFT FOODS. I love my cats too much to trust others to inform me that their food is safe. They have known about a problem since December and did not tell us.

The foods that were recalled were produced in Canada. Purina pet foods including Friskies and Whiskas are produced in St. Louis, Missouri. They should be fine, but if you are still concerned, call your vet or any vet if you don't have one.
Another point: If your cat seems to be ok, I woulld not panic. You will know if this animal has the kidney disease that is killing pets. Symptoms include: lethargy, inability to eat or drink, and bloody diarhea. I know these by heart because about 18 months ago, we had to have our 13-year-old American Eskimo put to sleep because of advanced kidney disease. She went from fine to near death in just a couple of weeks inspite of everything we and the vet did for her. So I know that if your cat had cause for concern, you would know it. Stick with Purina brands and I think you'll be ok. Good luck

I went to the site called "About cats" and it tells about the Friskies and I had to get out there fast because it did not sound good at all. You should go in and read it. It would make you sick. Purina Dry food.

No dry foods are on the list, and it's canned and pouches of sliced or chunk meats in gravy. No purina cat foods are on the list.
