A guy should approach a girl by saying " Hi there. How are you?" That sort of thing.

It has nothing to do with looks. Looks are so over-rated, really. If you are more of an introvert (shy, quiet) type, it doesn't mean you can never get the girl you have your eye on. You could always send her flowers, candy or a plain ol' invite to a movie, a party, a walk in the park. There are countless ways to approach this. Slip her a note. Most women, no matter what age, have romantic genes/thoughts within them and she'll probably meet with you if for nothing else but to satisfy her curiosity. On the other hand, there are so many crazies out there nowadays... Make sure your note doesn't suggest any hidden away place or hotel room or the like. It'll make her run for sure... I would (LOL)! Rather, ask her to meet you in a place that is frequented by many people, and make sure it's during the day. Oh, and to reply to your initial question: No, it's not true, as I explained above. Good luck and who knows, this might be the perfect match for both of you :) MsB.

Here are some Tips on asking a girl out:
There are several cheesy techniques you can use to lower your chances of rejection (such as making a bet with a girl and the loser has to make them dinner) but these kinds of games are unnecessary. If you are straightforward, and don't beat around the bush about what you want, a girl will respect and admire your confidence.
If she says "yes"
Have a plan in mind; know your schedule and have an idea to suggest.
If she says "no"
Don't act shocked or offended. Just be like, "Alright." Then carry on the conversation as if you never asked. Be friendly and polite. Too often guys take a "no" personally and get ticked off. Girls don't admire or respect a negative reaction. The fact that you were able to brush off her rejection so easily may actually raise her interest.
If she says "some other time"
Have a plan B in case she is busy. If she still acts like she has too much to do it's probably because she's not interested and doesn't want to hurt your feelings. Accept it as a rejection and move on.
Of course, you go into it expecting her to say "yes" but it's, as with most things in life, it's important to be prepared for the worst.

Anyways My point is YOU DO HAVE A CHANCE so stop telling yourself this. women like confidence. You can do it i promise. Smile, sit by her and start a conversation (could even about the weather if u can't think of anything and then slip on my name is______ whats yours?) idk just talk to her, WOMEN aren't scary they aren't going to bite ur head off for talking to them! :P

Actually, I hate it when I have to go up to the guy. I think that any guy I'm going to date has to be confident, and if he isn't confident enough to approach me, then maybe he isn't that great of a guy. That being said most of the time when I approach a guy there isn't a relationship.
How a guy approaches a girl? 1. Be real, be nice. She's just a person. Introduce yourself like you would to anyone else.
2. NO PICK UP LINES. Gosh they are cheesy.
3. The actual approach. Put one foot in front of the other. Watch for things you could trip over. Introduce yourself. PLEASE, make eye contact.

U see different scenarios throws people together, u don't necessarily meet someone just by having them approach u.
Some meet by fighting over something, bumping into each other, laughing at the same thing...spontinaity.
The "Hi, how are u, I'm..." so & so approach kinda bores me. Its respectable no doubt but it lacks spunk.
So a man that can read a situation: me standing in a cafee, me at a soccor game, etc & use it is better.
like say "oh ur team sucks" then laugh &wink, he is making a gest at me, sending out a challenge. (the smile lets me know he is being sincere about it, ¬ cutting)
So read the situation, the body language then fomulate ur opening line.

True. If you are interested, but too scared to approach her, then how will she know you are interested. Take chances and don't come on too strong. Just be yourself and see how it goes. Have confidence in yourself, not your looks. As girls get older, they look for more than just good looks and that does not become the main focus. Don't get me wrong, there needs to be an attraction, but just finding someone nice is a rarity these days.

I've heard that too. But, I'm the one that approached my husband and we've been married 10 years. So, it depends on the girl/guy. To approach, just say "Hey or hi" whatever. Do not make it abig deal. do not put on any kind of act. Casual and comfortable. If you are positive, people around you feed off it.

Well, I don't know if that's true. If I guy flirted with me from across the room, that would work. You know, he would look at me and when I saw him, he'd smile shyly and look away and kept doing that. If I was attracted to him, I'd go over to him.
A guy should just come up and say hi. I'm not big on goofy lines about how nice my body is and stuff. Maybe just bring up the weather,a funny joke, etc. ,
