My dad's been raking in the furniture in the house, replacing furniture after furniture. It's fine, but the problem is that he just stores (or in my opinion, dumps) the old furniture either in storage rooms in the house OR in the backyard where it gets rained on and rots. That, or he puts them in either his room or my room for "safe keeping" which in my opinion just procrastination.
The bigger problem now is that he said he's getting new furniture for my small room. I don't need anymore, but I'm eager to get alot of stuff out of my room at the same time and not be stored anywhere in the house like what my dad does. Heck, I'd love it if I can dump it somewhere where it can get encinirated or something. I mean old cabinets, beds, etc.
So are there any places where I can throw these bigger items away? From beds to cabinets to broken fridges, are there any places where I can dispose of them? Is it free? If not, how much will it cost?

It depends on where you live, but here we take that kind of old stuff to the dump. They have different places to put different types of junk. If the furniture's any good, find your local Salvation Army to donate to them. You might also run an ad in the paper for free stuff and let other people do the work for you.

Make a call to any of the non-profit groups who run thrift shops in your area, such as the Society of St Vincent DePaul, Purple Heart Veterans, Salvation Army, etc. Ask if they will send out a truck on a given day to take away a houseful of used furniture. They take it all away along with anything else you're done using (like old clothes, boots, etc...even old cars) and give you a receipt. Next year you have a nice tax deduction and a clean house. Works well and you don't have any hard work to do to get it out of the house!

You know that you can put this stuff up on freecycle. What you consider junk maybe what someone else has been looking for to put in there house heck I had someone take my old broke down dryer to use for parts. It is free and I think a really good idea. It is recycling you old stuff. Each city usually has its own group so go to the web site that I posted below and find the group for your area. The people will actually come to your house to get the things if you want them to.

I would consider finding a place to give it away or donate it. You can go to www.Craigslist.com and post it to either sell it for a nominal fee or post it in the free area. There are a lot of folks that just want to get rid of something without having to go to the trouble or the expense of going to the dump. Depending on the condition of some of the items you could donate to habitat for humanity or another charity. If you donate it is tax deductibible.
There might be some items that are of no use to you but, could be of use to someone who has nothing.

When my mother passed, I called our local Crisis Center looking to donate items and they had a thrift shop that picked up furniture as well. Look in your phone book for thrift shops, call local churches to see if they know of any charitable organization that will want the furniture. They won't give you any money, but they won't charge to take it away, either.

Join FREECYLE. People will come and pick it up and take it away for you and be happy to do it. Go to http://www.Freecycle.org and look for a group in your area. You'd be surprised what people are willing to take off your hands!
It's completely free and you can give and get just about anything. I gave away a my Mitsibushi Galant and I picked up a dishwasher and a spiral staircase. All free!
