in context:
The Hebrew people burned incense on the alter after a sacrifice of an unblemished Lamb. thus a sweet savor.
God drew a line(put limits) as to what he would not accept The person you are referring to was a leader who broke the rules he was enforcing.
The Hebrew people were ordered to purge the promised land. Go through and kill all the people of the land and burn their idols. The Hebrew people started doing that and then they said why do we need to kill? The people who we fight fear us, leave the people and take their idols. Guess who they made treaties with--the Palestinians for one. The plagues moses told Pharaoh about were simple. God said Let my people go--pharaoh said no--after the tenth plague--pharoah said yes. The plagues were not sent to get followers they were sent to free a people. The last plague, death of the first born. The children of Israel were protected.
You may not understand God--God is not sick--God is.
Hope this answers your question

smutty smurf? Can YOU say ABORTION.
bekkie s ~ The same God that gave lucifer a choice... lucifer chose to lead HIS followers to do evil deeds. God counteracts EVIL deeds by eliminating people whose souls might still be saved if they DIE before they are contaminated by IGNORANCE.
Even WHEN a child dies a horrific death from disease OR CRIME it HELPS OTHERS to come together AND TRY and S A V E other kids . The SACRIFICE of few for the GOOD OF the masses of CHILDREN who may LIVE due to the diligence of the grieving parents and family to see that MORE is done for the next CHILD in THAT situation. When my 3 1/2 year old nephew died a long agonizing death from cancer NO ONE could IMAGINE what could BE worse THAN his 9 months of suffering...
HOWEVER , EVEN HIS parents felt ROBBY was saved from a possible worse fate of NOT KNOWING GOD as an adult and SUFFERING ETERNALLY as a sinner.

I could get into a long discertation and try to explain all of this to you, but I'm not going to, because I don't think at this point your mind is open to it. So I will just address your question...
God is the creator of all life. God sets the standards of right and wrong. The Creator has that right. He can create life, and He can take life, if it is His will.
Apparently you have gleaned your information from bits and pieces of selected scripture, rather than read the entire thing. You are also perhaps taking information from articles on the internet, or another source. Regardless, you are not reading the scripture in it's entirety, and comprehending what it is telling you.
Scripture clearly states God's purposes for the things that were done. You choose to take those events into a negative light, rather than try to see the entire picture. One cannot make conclusions until all the facts are in, but yet this is exactly what you are doing. You see "sacrifices", "genocide" and "plagues", but you do not see why these things had to happen. Until you read the entire scripture, front to back, and grasp the intents of God, this is the kind of distorted conclusion you are going to come up with.

The same God who made us all in His image. When given the chance to be with Him forever, our representatives failed us, so now we are all reprobates in our Maker's eyes.
Therefore God does not owe us anything and can do with us as He sees fit. People keep crying out for fairness and justice, yet we are all lost, hell-bound, and sin-bent, seeking an equity we ourselves refuse to give to others.
Yet, God, owing us nothing, still remained active in the world giving us another chance to be restored to the state we were in when in Eden. Yes, God commanded whole cities be extirpated. God is not a bearded grandpa puttering around in the garden. Besides loving us, God is a jealous and wrathful God. He wants our love and worship and when we refuse, in spite of all the evidence that we should comply, there are consequences.
Try not to take some verses from the bible in isolation and then try to form an entire theology around them. The instances you refer to all have very sound explanations that are in perfect harmony with a divine being's attributes.
Ask some questions about the specific chapter and verses you are stumbling over. I am sure you will get some cogent responses.

Hello Bekkie
1. Killing is not wrong if it is for judgement of unrighteousness.
2. Giving people who sin a plague is merciful lest they perish altogether in thier sins without repentance of belief in the Righteous God - requiring payment for sin.
And to move others not to commit unrighteousness.
Unrighteousness will be judged.
But mine was judged when Jesus Christ bore my sins on the Cross.

"Whenever we read the obscene stories, the voluptuous debaucheries, the cruel and tortuous executions, the unrelenting vindictiveness with which more than half the Bible is filled, it would be more consistent that we call it the word of a demon than the word of God. It is a history of wickedness that has served to corrupt and brutalize mankind."
-- Thomas Paine (1737–1809), Anglo-American political theorist, writer. “Examination of the Old Testament,” pt. 1, The Age of Reason (1794).
"I would not dare to so dishonor my Creator God by attaching His name to that book (the Bible)." -- Thomas Paine

Hi,
I'm so very sorry, that this is the angle you have choosen to view, my hope for you is, it is out of lack of study, my fear is, it is controlled by the devil.
Since the first sin, we have been condemned to burn up in hell, we deserve no less based on our sinfulness. God is unable to lie, God is unable to break His own laws. That should be a comfort to everyone, not at threat.
He has given us a way out of hell, He has sacrificed His only son for our sake, isn't that the highest love you can think of?
What shall a parent do, when the children are disobedient? punish or let happen?
How do you define love in that regard?

If you study and do more research you will get some answers. It is obvious that you don't understand God. He did all those things for a reason, but some people like you are not open-minded to even look more in depth.
The God that did all those things in the (OT), is the same God that Moses followed and lead the people out of Egypt. He is the same God who hears His people cry in Israel. He is the same God whom all Prophets cried out to. He is the same God whom all nations will see and worship. That even you will know who He is. So please don't even question Him, because He is the same God who created all things here on earth.
You ought to read more, rather then doing what you do best here. And read more into what you posted here, you will have more understanding why God did those things. I challenge you or are you not open-minded?

Oh my. I cannot BELIEVE the number of people here who are saying that genocides, disease, and the torturous murders of children "HAD" to happen. It disgusts me. I knew a little girl who was kidnapped and murdered in 1993. Exactly why did that "have" to happen? To toughen the laws against child predators? What loving deity would allow people to be so sick in the first place?
If there is some God who has the key to heaven why would he/she/it not just use it? Why make people suffer? Why wish eternal damnation upon those who "don't believe"? That isn't free will! It's barely a multiple choice question. It's either this or that. I know if I was God I would NEVER allow for the suffering and pain of others. I wouldn't keep paradise hidden from anyone, and I would certainly show myself to everyone. If some benevolent god or gods exist and yet still allow such terrible things to happen then he/she/it is NOT benevolent. Why would God do this? To, as so many Christians say, "test our faith"? Why, if there is a God, can we not just all be happy and not need faith at all because we'll have knowledge right at our fingertips. Did 9/11 have to happen for people to realize that we were unsafe? Did 20,000,000 people ranging from Jews to homosexuals to Asians, etc. need to be tortured and murdered in Nazi Germany for us to realize that fascist governments weren't good? Of course not, if there is indeed a God, because no God would ever allow hatred and prejudice and terrorism in paradise. Everything would always be safe. No one would have the emotions or minds that lead to such horrors. ANY benevolent god would have us prancing about prettily, happy as pigs in sh*t, loving and hugging and kissing one another.
If, however, God is a wrathful, vengeful, narcissistic, psychotic, sadistic megalomaniac then I can see how all of this can happen, and I certainly wouldn't give this God a moniker of "god" because that would connote some sort of spiritual benevolence. Satan? Really! God created Satan to, um... challenge us, yeah and to... uh, show us how benevolent he is by creating someone who wasn't so we could compare. WHY DO THAT?!?!? What kind of sick being would need a doppelganger to get his point across?
I can understand those who have faith in something but don't believe the words of an ancient fairy tale or even deign to imagine that a spirit could talk to a whole bunch of people and have them write a book. I've heard brilliant logic like "Why would these stories collaborate if God didn't really give some bushmen the words" and I say, aarrrgh! Almost none of these stories collaborate, and the men who wrote them together could all read what one another wrote and go from there. Seriously. Bekki is right. NO loving god would ever need worship to be nice, or to test the waters to see if we'll all act like human beings. No God would allow for any of us to be unhappy or homeless or in pain. "Heaven" would be everywhere. God "gave us the choice to be with him forever" by creating within us human characteristics and then forcing us to act like saints? He created some dude and some chick to be naturally attracted to one another and then tempted them? Yeesh. Why bother? Why not just allow us all to be in paradise and not have fleshly or emotional or physical worries? Why give us human attributes at all? It's pretty demented, if you ask me.

Sounds like you've already answered your own question by refering to the deity as "sick." I'm assuming your refering to the deity of the Christian faith (God, Jesus, Holy Spirit).
Is what you are really asking, why did God allow bad things to happen to good people? The reality is, that no where in the Bible did God hurt or harm anyone without that person or people first doing something to cause God to act in that way.
The good news is, your references to the deity acting in that way are fact, but Old Testament law. In the New Testament, God didn't have to punish people that way anymore. Instead he "punished himself" by allowing His only Son Jesus to die on the cross for our mistakes. If that is the "sick deity" you are refering to, sign me up! I'd rather live knowing a "sick diety" died for me, then to die knowing that I could have had a personal relationship with this diety and that my only choice after death would be eternal hell. I choose the "sick diety"...good luck on your choice! :)
