bass go for live bait like minnows and carp are bottom feeders and will rather have dead food but try some corn meal mixed with sugar and syrup the old men use it at this carp pond i go to

carp -- carn kernels on the hook
or white bread rolled into balls
with corn in the inside,and dried hard as a rock
then put on the hook.
bass -- mostly mepps any type
mepps with a worm
minnows. early spring floating rapalla

use live goldfish for the bass and dead for the carp.
