they are offered to provide the latest operating environment for your hardware.

They often include programming improvements to fix old problems and make your system run better.

For research, go to the website of the company offering the upgrade. They will explain what it offers and why.

They generally fall into two categories. 1. bug fixes and 2. new features. Bug fixes are generally a good thing to do. New features are only good if you want to use the new features. Read what they are and decide if it's something you'd use or not.

Have you not heard of planned obsolescence? Computer companies continue to invent new stuff and make programs bigger to force people into upgrading. It's a conspiracy....
