I was wondering what the weather might be like generally during this time of year and whether or not places like the Vatican allow visitors (female) to wear jeans. Thanks to all!

*** By the way, are there any great festivals or events (outside of Easter which is two weeks later) that I should be aware of?

Women dress up in Italy, especially in the cities like Rome. It should be in the mid 70s most of the time, but you will need a light coat for the evenings.

The Vatican does allow women to wear jeans, but shorts are a no no and you must cover your shoulders. Same goes for men. Dresses must come to your knees.

All churches ask that a woman's chest, choulders and knees be covered. That means no low cut tops, no tank tops, and no short shorts/skirts. Men are asked to cover their knees and shoulders as well. The vatican strictly screens for this. While other churches are more flexible, respect their customs so that you don't come across as a rude American.

In many Metropolitan cities, women "dress". I couldn't believe the amount of slacks, skirts, and heels I saw while I was there. This doesn't mean that a tourist has to wear uncomfrotable Jimmy Choos all day, but stylish sneakers with dark pants would probably be preferable to jeans and nikes.

Italy's temperature can vary greatly. I recommend checking weather.com to see what the forecast will be in the cities you are traveling to. In Rome, weather.com is reporting highs in the low sixties, increasing to upper sixties by the end of March. Showers look possible nearly every day. Lows beginning in the lower forties, increasing as daily temperatures increase.

Have a great trip!

The weather should be pretty awesome unless it rains but don't worry about cold!
About the Vatican, you're allowed to wear absolutely anything you want that is of course, not showing more than above your knee and has shoulderhangs

I lived in Italy for a few years now, it's safe, and lots of places to see, it depends on what you would like to visit really, you have all options and north and south differ a lot culturally wise as well. My only advice, don't miss out the food!

i was in italy over the summer and it was ridiculously hot, but it will probably be cool when you go. as for the vatican, jeans would be appropriate. i'm pretty sure it's considered rude if you wear anything above the knees, so jeans are a safe bet. have fun and takes LOTS of pictures!

hmm i think you should pack what you wear normally since the temp doesnt differ that much. just pack mpre t shirts and light clothing but bring a light jacket or sweatshirts for the chilly days or nights. idk if they do allow visitors to wear jeans at the vatican but my opinion is get jeans and also a pair of nice pants for special events like a theatre night or something like that.
