If God is perfect, then why is there so much controversy over his existence and his intentions? For most people, a perfect being is one who can be understood by everyone.
I think that either God is not perfect or the description of perfection (as written by the Bible) is NOT a description of God.
What do you think?

Maybe some people do have an imperfect understanding. Maybe we all do? Given that, what makes one's understanding of God more perfect than another's?
Why would a person choose to have non-perfect beliefs?
And when I speak of God, I don't mean only in terms of his existence.
More specifically, when I speak of God, I speak in terms of his intentions (or "plan") which are deemed perfect by Christians assuming his existence is true.
after reading this (http://www.answers.com/perfection), it makes me wonder why that article doesn't tell me systematically what "perfection" is like the Bible does.

Well the Bible was written by humans. You need to find the scripture which was not authored by a human but is the direct word of God.
The Word of God cannot be imitated by man and it cannot have contradictions.

The Bible was written by People - just plain people. And you might be able to claim that the gospels of Matthew/Mark/Luke/John mighy have discrepencies when you labor over them in study.for they are just men. This is not a new theory rather an old one Now to guestion the fact that Jesus was on earth. the son of God here. This question over faith and the true one faith has raged for 2000 years Was God a perfectlikeness of the Lord God ?? Either believe or you don't believe. And while you are studying notice that Jesus who is God had human emotions, strenghts and weaknesses his entire life. And lastly, mankind must accept the rules that seems best for them. They do not degrade God's name or what power he holds. They accept it. and HIM sometimes blindly out of faith.. There is no question that societies change with age. Whether ours will be heterosexual or homosexual is one question that they'll be discussing in many of the years to come. Mankind does not have these answers. Maybe thru prayer and communing with God we maybe enlightened.

I don't think that there is a "for most people" when talking about a perfect being. How can you say that? And who can truly be understood by everyone? Say there was a perfect being... how do you know that yourself, in your imperfect understanding would believe that he was perfect?
And what reasons do you give to support the idea the God isn't perfect?

I think God is perfect, and what we have done to identify ourselves to him, or to understand him, is often horribly mistaken. You don't have to read the Bible to know God, or any text, nor do you have to sign up anywhere, or go someplace to worship. You can know God by looking outside and observing any kind of natural or weather related thing. You can know God by trusting your gut. Not your education, not your indoctrination, not your socialization. Your deepest purest desires and emotions are holy, as are the actions that you take in response to them. This is how you learn about God.
When I say deepest desires....well, you can take that all kinds of ways and seems like you can just kick someone in the knee and say "I really wanted to...and God told me to...so I did it." and I hope you know this is not what I mean.
Desires of your heart are pure...without being tainted by fear, lust, or hatred. PEOPLE are the ones that taint their desires with these things. But if you look deep enough you can find what you really want. And it doesn't hurt or offend anyone, in fact, everyone can have the deepest desires of their hearts without even having to wait their turn, or without starting any wars over it or anything...and when you do those things there is no guilt, just joy. That is God's plan for you. Those are the things you should be doing because they will bring peace to you. This is how I think you can know God.

The absolute truth is coming out about our civilization. It is now time we embrace the truth of our past. The religiously indoctrinated will be hardest hit because getting over a belief system is like letting go of an addiction. You will go through emotional withdrawals while coming to grips with our new knowledge and understanding of the past. I know this to be a fact because as a Christian I went throuhg this denial as I read these books.
Do your research Christians as Zecharia Sitchin brings out absolute truth about the bible. It will cook your noodle what is being accepted about our genome and historical facts about our religious past. The religious community is already working to expand the meaning of God to keep their hold on the masses.

God is perfect, he is Holy he is righteous he is unique. But man is imperfect and the Bible is inspired by the Holy Spirit working through man. The Bible is perfect God put everything in it that he wanted us to know. God knows that we are imperfect and he has nothing to hide, that's why we read about the sins of great men of the Bible. IT is to bring us hope though we are frail God still loves and cares about us.

How do you know that the bible is imperfect? Open it up and read it. Even the first book of Genesis is enough to get the idea that this is fiction.
The God that I believe in has no human flaws like jealousy and vengeance. He would not flood the earth or put our children to death for cursing us. He would not care about a person's sexuality because He made them they way they are.
A very good rule of thumb that I will forever live by is:
ANY RELIGION THAT CLAIMS TO BE THE ONLY WAY TO GOD IS A LIE!!!!

God IS perfect, but satan doesn't want us to know this and does everything he can to confuse and distort truth, thus satan is the father of lies. Satan robs, steals and destroys. The controversy is from various reasons. One is satan deceiving people into doubting and denying God thru many tactics. Another is man trying to bring unlimited God down to man's limited mind's level. Another is people listen to other people's opinions that are not based on truth - the Bible. And a lack of faith in things we cannot see or figure out with our limited minds. God and the Bible can be understood by people who believe and trust in Jesus and who are indwelt by the Holy Spirit which surpasses human understanding. If you want to get rid of controversies and doubt, listen to The Word of God, not opinions of man that are not backed up by God's Word!

I personally believe that not all words in the Bible are from God. I think just as with the churches, human beings put their own interpretation on what they believe God meant or they believe what Jesus said etc. I think the concepts are those of God but the details.....well, I only have faith in the concepts.

God is perfect. Man is not. The Bible was inspired by God, but written by man... therefore it is imperfect. Ultimately, it is hard for man to grasp perfection and why there is such contention with God's existence at all.
