Ok I am grossed out by public Ketchup, Salt and pepper. I am talking about the Ketchup that's left open out on the tables in restaurants. Also the salts and pepper. I can't use it for fear that others may have been handleing it or may have sneezed over it.

I am also grossed out by open containers of milk/cream that are left out for adding to coffee at stores ... Again I think they are bacteria infested, germy or tampered with. Anybody else with these issues???

*** ps I bring ketchup packets with me to restaurants and I avoid salt. I travel with my own powdered creamer for coffee///

What's gross is what sometimes goes on with your food in the kitchen. Just try not to think about it.

You're right, though, the ketchup thing is a little gross. But I wouldn't worry about the salt and pepper. Nothing is going to grow there, at least not for very long.

I think about it all the time. My husband says I am just parinoid, but one day I saw a little boy gnawing on a pepper shaker. They don't wipe them down between customers. I only use the ketchup if it is new or they brought it from the back. Then maybe a little kid didn't use it as a teething ring.

Okay it sounds like you have an OCD problem.
No one really thinks about these things. I am not really sure about some of these things but....

As for salt, nothing can survive in salt, including bacteria. Why do you think if you pour salt into an open wound it stings really bad? Or if you have a sore throat that they tell you to gargle with salt water. It's because it kills bacteria.

When I was younger we used to spit in the parmesan shakers at the local pizzaria so when you see real chunky parmesan think twice. Oh yeah, and if you've never cooked at a restaraunt I'd be more worried about what happens to your food in the kitchen before worrying about salt, ketchup, etc.

No you are not the only one. I worked in the restaurant industry for several years & you wouldn't believe some of the things I saw. I also think buffet style restaurants are a breeding ground for germs as well. Too many fingers in the food to suit me.

You may be a germaphobe. The steps you take to avoid such things indicates you may have a bigger problem. you may actually need pro help, in case this gets more severe.
