What does emo mean to you?

Are you emo, and if you are, then what does being emo mean to you... I mean you all couldn't possibly understand where I'm coming from... Nobody understands me damnit.

Yet, let me comment... Emo people are not goths and please do not give me a Wikipedia def... I don't want one... I want to know what YOU think.

emo to me means jus that, emotional. usually passionate, overwhelming emotion (not necessarily negative emotion all the time either). i think everyone has their own little emo moments, but we jus don't call it that.

Here's what emo means to me: feigning insurmountable depression just for the hell of it. Guess what, everyone gets sad. Such is life. The problem with "emo"s is that there is a lifestyle created around it. Music and what not is fine; depression has always been popular among the arts. You don't need an entire life devoted to it, that creates a vicious cycle from which you can't recover. Every time you say something like "nobody understands me damnit" you dig yourself into a hole of despair -- the dark abyss that is your soul ( that is the preferred motif of emo, is it not? I thought I would borrow a page from your book of poetry which is in fact only the result of writing prose and hitting enter randomly to make it appear as poetry).

Of course, it is entirely ironic that emo kids find some semblance of enjoyment out of their collective -- but not respective (it doesn't exist) -- misery. If you weren't so damn retarded -- this time both collectively and respectively -- I would applaud your excellent exercise in irony; but seriously, no way you guys would have thought of that.

Being EMO means you have lost control over your actions. Yes I understand it, my daughter, and now her son have done the cutting to themselves. She is into the Goth look and whatever it stands for. I have watched her self destruct. She is now an adult and still behaves like this. What I do understand about this is that a person is too focused on themselves and their feelings. Look to those around you and see that you are not the only one who suffers. To give comfort and love to others is to heal yourself of the suffering. My grandson is recovering from trying to kill himself. He is such a bright person who has closed himself off to the doom and gloom of EMO. He was once so happy an cheerful and considerate of others. Now all he can think of is himself and his misery. I saw his My Page filled with satanic symbols and things I cannot understand. My daughter wonders what is wrong with him. I wonder what is wrong with her. They wonder what is wrong with me because I cannot understand how this happened to two beautiful people.

You said EMOs are not Goths. How can you tell the difference? There is none, it has been re-named to EMO. It is still the same black miserable suffering cutting themselves because they are in pain movement.

I`ll tell you what EMO can do to you. It can cause you to eventually become so psychotic that you may end up trying to or committing suicide. My grandson put his head into a lit large chimeria fireplace.

Basically being emo means being very emotional, usually extremely depressed. They can never get over their emotions easily. They keep on thinking that the world hates them and they complain about a lot of things. They are never positive and happy people. Emos are so depressed that they plan on commiting suicide sometimes.

nobody understands me either. emo ARE NOT the people that you see in goth outfits. i hate people when they try to act "emo." i just hate that. whenever my friends try to act that way i tell them with a serious voice "dont try to be emo" and my whole day is ruined. then they think that there is something wrong with me. i just hate that.
to me, emo people have issue(s) and they do not like to publicize it. they can cry themselves to sleep then never say anything to anyone about it and they just bottle up all that stress/aggravation/anger/confusion and eventually explode .

I saw on this TV show on MTV called Made, and there was this group of kids called emo kids. It stood for emotional, cause they were very emotional kids, always crying and always had some kind of drama going on. So to me emo means emotional. I hope that helps you.

Emo is actually Korean for aunt. Though I doubt thats what you meant by it. Call it emo, goth, punk, whatever. All it is, is a new generations way of expressing themselves and a reason for the older generation to say they're stupid kids. I'm punk and they said and still say, it about me.

I am not emo. But from my understanding, an emo is somebody who is gothic and cuts themselves and makes their life a lot worst than what it really is. If you really do have a bad home life, I am so sorry, but is cutting yourself or hurting yourself in any way really helping you? If you really want to feel better, ask your parents about seeing a shrink or something.

Its just like when kids used to dress in all black and lay on railroad tracks. Nobody loves me, nobody understands let me cut my hair like I was attacked by a weedwacker and wallow in self pity. Its a trend, and trendy still is just as ridiculous as ever. Everyone just want to fit in somewhere I suppose but its sadly generic how no one seems to be themselves and find some level of confidence in it anymore.
