Ok, so I am 17 years old, and I have been dating someone for 3 monthes. I have not told my parents that I am dating. As much as I want to, I can't. This boy I am dating is not an attractive guy but I don't care about that. He has alot of friends because he is so nice and really funny. I have been friends with him for a long time and my mom has made "jokes" in the past about how ugly he is, and how someone would have to be desperate to EVER date him. I don't like keeping this a secret but I am scared about how I will most likely get teased by my parents. My mom already thinks I might be dating him. When my sister said his name tonight, she was walking by and she was like..EWWW!! Im just confused...it makes me really sad to think that she would put someone down and make them seem disgusting just because they weren't born to be a male model. Should I care? Should I tell her?

i do like him alot....he is my first boyfriend and i dont know how to handle this situation at all....especially when my parents (pretty much my mom) are really overprotective

I think you should tell your mom. In a way it seems like you do not like him that much because your family doesn't know that ya'll are dating because they think he is ugly. You should not care about looks. If you care about him then you will look past that. It does not matter what anyone thinks about his looks, you are the one dating him and you are the one that cares about him. It would hurt him if he found out the reason why your family does not know about you both. Stay strong and know that it doesnt matter what people think. These are your feelings! Good luck!

Your mom doesn't sound very nice. I think the way you act is very responsible and mature. Your mother, no offense, sounds like a very shallow person. What about your dad? Maybe you can tell him, so that it won't be a secret, but you don't have to look at your mom when she finds out. That's the best I've got. Sorry. You sound like a wonderful person.

hahaha wooow - you sound like me when i was 17...i kept a secret with my parents when i was going out with my boyfriend (who happened to be one of my friends that my parents knew too) and he was not the most attractive guy either - it hurt everytime they would say comments - i mean CMON it's the guy you care about the out of all people, your parents are making these comments ...it's crazy. I know it's hard but if you want to stop all this, you have to tell them eventually...this is one of the sacrifices and hard things you have to do once you're in a relationship - you have to defend them. Have faith and explain to your parents, everything you've told us - you will be fine - have faith and good luck!

honey, if u really sure that this man is ur soulmate, then probably its the best to tell ur parents about it. u cant keep it forever. and before u do that, u should share this to ur boyfriend and ask his opinion about it. and from that u get to know him better in way his handeling this problem. comunication is the best things for u to get to know ur soulmate. make sure u're really sure about ur decision then u tell ur parents about it. ok. wish u the best.

of course you should tell her. shes your mom. the problem she has with his looks is her problem. i hope she has enough class to not make jokes like that when you bring him home for dinner.
