Check with the U.S. embassy in the country where the cat is presently located. They very likely have a website and on it there are very likely some helpful instructions or at least a list of requirements.

I do know that at the very least you'll need a certificate of health for the cat, and I believe it has to be issued rather shortly before the travel date. But best to check with the embassy.

The US does not have any restrictions on bringing a cat over from another country. We are the easiest and most lax. The only thing you will need is to call the airline you plan to fly with they will have different rules like some what health certificate or Rabies vaccine or certificate of acclimation if the cat is traveling in cargo. This will tell them the cat is healthy enough to withstand the possibly temp. changes. Again the US itself does not require documents just the Airline itself.

I don't know what country you are coming from, but I did bring a cat into the US from Mexico and what i did was go to the US Embassy and get a lot of forms to fill out. They will give you all the information about what shots you have to have, give you the papers that have to be filled in by the local vet and everything else that you have to show when you get to immigration at the US end. I had no problems.

I know when bringing a cat from Canada we only needed the current rabies tag/certificate and a statement saying the cat was healthy. Worked the same way when i moved from the US to Canada. I crossed by car, there maybe a different rule if crossing by air.
