Here are a few that are good: Solid Gold, Wellness, Canidae, Timberwolf Organics, Innova, and Artemis Fresh Mix, there are several more but these are really good. They may be a bit pricey initially but they come out cheaper because you feed less. These are 100% human grade dog food with NO corn, wheat, soy, grain fractions, fillers or by products – and naturally preserved.

The link I have provided sells dog food online but you can also look up the ingredients (on this site) to any of the ones I have listed plus any other dog foods you may be interested in, they have many brands listed.
The best thing you can do is research the different brands. Meat should be the first ingredient and the foods should NOT contain corn, wheat, soy, beef or by-products and it should also be made from human grade ingredients.

The Best Dry Food is the one that you have the best result from your dog. I can recommend the best of the best, like wysong, flint ranch, but if your dog is going to have a allergic reaction to it, it will not be the best.
In fact, my friend tried all the best brands on her dog, and found out solid gold is the best for it (no skin problems).
So the best for your dog should result in shiny coat, no skin problems and good immunity system (without those additional supplements) where fleas and ticks will not attack your dog.

Anything without corn, wheat, soy, or by-products. The first ingredient should be fresh meat. The dog will digest 90% of a food with this make-up. A food that is corn based is 40-50% digestable. It will cause itching and hair loss in the long run. He will also eat more, and poop more. Suprisingly, Science Diet is a corn based food, therefore it really isn't any good even though you are paying quite a bit for it. Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul (like the book) is a wonderful food that contains 4 meats, and good vegetables. Professional brand and Blackwood are also good foods. As for mass marketed foods, Eukanuba is good, as well as Nutro. Otherwise, compare the labels. Many foods sold in grocery stores, such as Pedigree, or Purina, contain high corn content and should be avoided.

There is no single "best" dry food for any one dog, as some dogs tolerate certain formulas/proteins/grains and others don't.
Check out this website http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com for ratings and information about different brands of food.
Generally, if you can buy it at a regular grocery store, it's not among "the best."
Also, a cautionary word about getting your vet's advice: Be aware that your vet will recommend whatever brand they are selling in their office, because they make money by doing that.

eagle pack (brand) I've given it to my dog and cats the day I got them. I've NEVER had to take them to the vet for an illness. The oldest is 4yrs. Eagle pack has a different type of food for each pet breed.

I give my dogs Science Diet and it is a good food, it has
everything the dog needs in it. Sometimes I give them a
little chicken and rice but that is also good for them.

Purina is known by zookeepers, circus people, wildlifers, farmers, etc., etc. Give their products a good look. I've had lots of animals and all stay strangely healthy when I keep Purina dry anything as their base food.
