Advertising is unethical and while there may be some benefits it is harmful overall. What do you guys think about that. Yes or no?

Pls expand on your question. What do you mean by unethical? There are professional and goverment bodies that governs/monitors advertisment and we advertising agency have to go through hell load of red tapes that you don't know of.
I resent the unethical part.

No way! Advertising is a very important of people's live. They feed a lot of information to the consumers. And yes, something it can be sugar coated but that's just the natural of the business. Advertising are eye candy for consumer. And a smart viewer should know to research what interest them instead of taking it in face value. Plus do you know how big the advertising industry is? It's not just the ad agencies, there also graphic designer, web designer, media buyer, market research, copy writer, printer, illustrator, photographer, everyone from the marketing department in a major corporation all the way to the person who hang the billboard, just to name a few. In fact, they serve every single industry in this country. They play a very important part for the economy.
I think you should show a little more respect to them.

You would be a far left wing wacko if you felt that advertising is harmfull overall. People should have the ability to make decisions on their own. The government already controls the ad agency business enough. Look at the textile laws for advertising. It is insane. As a consumer and grown man, I do not need the government controlling what I see and hear. I can make my own mind up wether I believe it or not. Fraudulent ads that are intending to harm people are already illegal and that is enough. No further with the government control.

The only unethical advertising I can identify is connected to political campaigns.
Seems unfair to connect the real world with those people.
