Honestly it all depends on the size of ur mouth when I talk u can't even see it but then again I've seen others girls that it's more noticable on.

I knew nothing about them when I got mine, other than I wanted one. BTW, I got mine at age 27 and my mother still despised it! Most people don't know I have it until I yawn or laugh really big and open my mouth wide. One thing I have noticed is that you can ask them to pierce it farther back. That makes it less noticable. It does depend on the size of your mouth and how much you move your mouth and tounge when you talk. You will sound funny for at least a few days afterward b/c you have to train yourself not to twirl your tongue around hitting your teeth with it. You will be amazed how much you move your tongue and don't realize it until there is a piece of metal sticking out of it! They will most certainly insist on using a stainless steel barbell to start, and it will probably be longer than a normal one to allow room for swelling. DOn't change it too soon or it will be noticed... Your tongue will swell up araound a shorter bar and possibly get infected. Just leave the starter one in there, clean it really well, and don't talk much around your parents until you get it changed out. You are an adult, and no matter how much they hate it... they'll get over it. Mine still hates that I got mine pierced, but they deal with it and don't ever even mention it anymore... and that was 3 1/2 years ago! Good luck!

good luck being able to get a clear tongue ring when u first get it pierced, usually peircers wont use those, they use the steel barbells, after its healed u will be able to put a retainer ( a clear plastic piece that is hardly noticable ) or a clear barbell in it, however with the barbell u can get different size balls for it to help hide it and it usually stays in easier (trust me its not fun finding out u swallowed ur tongue ring) but just about everyone will have that problem some time, what i would be worried about is possibly talking funny if ur tongue swells when u get it done, and dont play with it! people do get in a habbit of playing with it without them even realizing it.

As long as you don't stick your tongue out at them or yawn with out covering your mouth, most are not noticable.
You can get either flesh coloured or clear beads for a regular surgical steel stud, which should help hide it. Just make sure you don't have to talk to your folks for about a week. My mom called me the day I got it done and asked if I was drunk (I was sluring because of the swelling) They didn't notice it untill 2 years after I had it done, and I had normal jewelry in it the whole time. Most people don't know I have it done untill I stick my tongue out at them (which happens a lot)

I just got mine done 2 days ago, if you do it then try to avoid face contact with them for about 3 days because you may sound different when you talk and you toung will be swollen. To be honest it depends on the vains in your tounge if it will be far back or close to the front. If its further back then you wont have to worry about it. But remember you cant change the tounge ring untill it heals and I dont think you can get it pierved with a clear one! But Im not for sure!

When you first get it, it is not that hard to hide but as you get used to it you forget about it and it becomes easier for others to discover that you have it. And when you first get the piercing you have to have a longer bar and you tongue swells up for 3 days and you have to pretty much relearn how to speak with it for the first couple of days so i would definately avoid your parents for at least 3 days if you really want to get it done but then you still have the problem of the longer bar for at the least 2-3 weeks

well clear tongue rings are usually acrylic. and you are not supposed to even wear acrylic jewelry. maily because it cannot be sterilized and it is porous and will harbor bacteria causign infections...
there are however rose quartz retainers on the market now..i have not run into a piercer who carries these though.. so you may need to have the regular barbell in till its healed... then when you go and visit your parents you can wear a clear acrylic retainer for that time period.. then switchit thwn you get home.
you are over 18 years old. you are making a living for youself adn on your own. its your body and you can do what you want. they cant stop you and they probabaly know , now matter what they say you will still do it anyways. you are old enough to make decisions. tell them to loosen up! lol im almost 20 still live at home. my mom hates all of my piercings but in the end she still oves me for who i am and your parents will to! they will jst need to learn to accept it and get over it!

when you first get it, it will be noticeable no matter what color the barbell is because your tongue will swell up and you won't be able to talk (or eat) properly. and most place don't give you a choice in what color barbell to start with. the standard started jewelry is silver. but after a couple weeks you can change it to whatever color you want. depending on how far back the piercing is and how careful you are about not opening your mouth to wide then nobody will be able to notice unless you purposely show them.

It swells alot and is noticable for about the first week. You can get pierced with PTFE which can come in clear. Don't use acrylic unless it is dental grade because acrylic is porous. They will pierce you in 14 ga probably and as long as you stay away from your parents for about a week you will be fine as it isnt very noticable.

The tongue ring can make your speech sound 'lispy' and draws attention to your tongue ring. In many people's mind it will not be to your advantage. I would never employ a person with a tongue ring. Your parents are right. Listen to them.
