Yes Brush hogs work . I would use baby brush hogs in the very early season and the larger size as the season goes on . Bass seem to like smaller baits early in the year or in pressured water. I suggest working them slow as possible bouncing them off the bottom
I use a buzz bait in the summer when bass are real active , I have the most sucess retrieving them just under the surface so they make a small wake but so the blades dont break the surface. Try a slight pause with them when retrieving. I get many strikes that way . Also use them along the bank or near bass strike zones. I catch larger fish off them than I do plastics. I like chartruese skirts in dingy water and white in clear water.
I have had some sucess with crankbaits . I like a stop and go retrieve near tree tops and rocks in deep water. Try a suspending crankbait also. Vary your retrieve till the fish let you know what they want.

Brush hogs are GREAT!!!! I caught my first five california bass on them in two hours. As for the size of the brush hog, that doesn't matter, they catch fish. Period.My favorite color is watermelon seed(i think thats the name).
As for buzz baits. That is a great night time bait because it stirs the water up so fish can find it at night, like a bait fish swimming at the surface. They work good too.
Crankbaits, finally, my favorite lure. I almost caught what seemed to be a twenty pound striper five feet from the boat. You can't go wrong fishing a crankbait. You can work them at a steady quick pace all the way in or you can use a stop and go retrieve and a jerk every once and a while works great.

A Brush Hog is a great soft plastic......i like the larger size because i believe in the saying "The Bigger The Bait, The Bigger The Fish" and it hasnt failed me yet. Buzz Baits.....I love them! The huge explosion on the top of the water is great.....Early Summer mornings and Late evenings are the best in my opinion. Crank Baits......I keep a large selection Shallow running, Medium, and Deep running......try them all at different speeds and action until you find where and how the fish react....Stop and go, Jerking, Slow retrieve, Medium retrieve, and fast retrieve......its really up to the fish.

Brush hogs work best around cover. A tree that has fallen into the water, weedbeds, and rocks. When the water warms to about 55 I start throwing buzzbaits. They mimic a baitfish fleeing from another fish. Work them as slow as you can but keep it on top buzzing. Big fish love em. Good luck.

buzzbaits do work, just when a fish hits, wait. then when your sure it has it (try counting 1mississippi) set the hook. brush hogs can be worked like a plastic worm or like a weedless jig if you peg the sliding sinker. to work texas style (like a plastic worm) cast out and retrieve in short hops. to fish like a jig (flipping and pitching) do a short underhand cast to cover to entice a fish. for crank baits, there is another name for them, idiot baits, because they are so easy to use
crankbait = crank+ the bait

the baby Brush Hog is one in each of my favorites. I rig it Texas type and purely solid out and carry the rod tip severe and purely permit it fall. it type of feels the fish in my lakes like it that way. i exploit a three/8 sinker. It additionally works large while fishing with a drop shot on the factors. Use it and it will grow to be one in each of your well known lures. This entice demands no particular presentation. in certainty it type of feels to artwork ultimate because it falls for sure interior the water. Fishing fever is commencing as much as hit me now that bow season is winding down.
