My hard drive crashed and everything deleted. So now windows thinks I am installing on a fresh HDD and I never owned windows before. What should i do?

Have you replaced HD with a new one? If not you should do this first,Then run recovery disk (if recovery disk did not come with your computer you can order from your computer manufacturers customer support) After installing HD and recovery disk then update and you will be good as new.
If your computer is an older one you need to weigh cost and time aginst cost of a new one. Its not hard to do above repair, you cannot recover lost info/files but a computer shop might be able to from old hard drive. Hope you backed up all files and important files if not learn from this and do in future back up your work to CD,you never know when it will come in handy.

choose the format option, unless yer still trying to use a bad hard drive.
