Any type of crunch that's done in the inverted position will have the greatest effect on your waistline in the shortest amount of time. Inverted means your head is lower than your hips when you're laying down. A slant board works great. Combine forward and twisting crunches in your ab workout to work both the front and sides. Crunches also work your back muscles. Don't forget the lower abs. You can work them by laying flat on the floor, arms down at your sides with palms flat on the floor. Rise your legs, and point your toes at the ceiling. Then tighten and tuck your lower abs and lift your hips off the floor. You should not swing or move your legs to help you, and your hips shouldn't rise more than a couple of inches off the floor. Hold the lift for a few seconds and repeat as many times as possible. Try it. It's very intense, and you'll know it will work from the first set you do.
Thinking your shouldn't do crunches because it will increase the size of your waist is ridiculous. Crunches, properly done, increases your core strength (abs, back, diaphragm, rib cage, and pelvic floor). A hanging abdomen pulls the spine forward and out of alignment. This causes backache. A strong core helps you breath better, improves posture, and avoid health problems like urinary incontinence, back injuries, and uterine prolapse.

Running my friend! Please no sit-ups or weight training in the mid section it tones muscle underneath which can broaden your waistline by pushing out the fat on top!!! Take it from me! I'm an "apple". Run-jog-walk. If you go to a gym use elliptical machine its easier than treadmill but very effective. I like treadmill though! Good Luck!

RUN. screw these "ab exercises". yes they may help a little but cardio is the best source for burning fat. The sad thing is when it burns fat your stomach region is the last part it gets to to burn fat. But it will just take time. One important thing you want to keep in mind while cardio and trying to get rid of stomach fat is to watch your diet. This will not work if you don't watch what you eat.
