I don't like churches that worry about that. At my church I can go to service on a Sunday morning wearing shorts and a tshirt without anyone giving me a second thought.

I don't think the churches have a dress code, per say. Dressing appropriately should be done out of respect for God and His Church. That doesn't mean dress to the nine's, but it isn't necessarily appropriate to be showing up in pj's and house slippers, or in a tight miniskirt and hooker boots either.

I do not know of any churches with a dress code. However, I have heard of some churches which do not allow lewdly dressed people to attend. Churches are full of children and the church should be a family-friendly place.

The same rules apply to schools. There should be nothing allowed that would be dangerous, disruptive, or disturbing.

Also, it should be noted that each church is free to do as they please (within the law) in this country. So if they wish to have formal attire, that is their right. Many restaurants, clubs, and other private organizations require formal attire. If this offends you, just go to a church that does not require formal dress.

I would like to think that any given church is open to any attire which is safe, non-disruptive, and not disturbing. I would also like to think that everyone who attends would have respect for God and for others around them, and to try to wear clothes which reflected their respect.

Whaaat are people talking about? Out of respect you should dress nice for god. Are you kidding me. Yeah, let's take Jesus message of be hummble by dressing up for church. Fashion and clothing are constructs of the human mind, not of gods. God made us naked. That's right, naked (according to the "Good Book"). God doesn't think about clothes. Hey, I am giving a higher place to Jim because he wore Armani and his best tie this Sunday and Joey, although he is more rightous of heart, well he wore blue Jeans, flip flops, and a plain white T-shirt. I love the way people are giving human feelings to god. God is not looking at it as respect, you are.

I've never really heard of a church having an official dress code, and I've attended Church all my life and been in leadership, however there is usually a dress code for those participating in the service in an official way, and it would have more to do with dressing modestly so as not to distract unnecessarily.

I don't know any churches that have dress codes and I've been to some different churches. You should dress presentable to church. Tore up clothes aren't acceptable anywhere but a job site. Some churches prefer you to dress very nice, IF YOU CAN. Otherwise, it's a rule of tumb to not dress like a harlot to church.

I think that it is better to dress like if Jesus (Yeshua) was actually here. These days you see many women who don't dress modest that they show too much of their skin with wearing skirts above their knees, tight pants, low-cut blouses etc.... If you want to learn to dress more modest, you need to take a look at the way the Jewish women dress in Israel, that even through out the week they still dress like that. Even little girls dress with wearing the long skirts.

Now with the men, some can tend to dress with tight pants etc....

God is the only One who sees how you dress, He sees everything in you. I would like to ask one thing though, when the temple gets built, there was always a ramp to go unto God's temple.....you know why? Because with wearing long skirts and robes, you will not see anyone flesh while going up to the temple. If it were steps, you would see everything, which steps were never used.

I think that there should be strict rules to how people present themselves in churches, synogogues....because you are actually coming to God in prayer and worship. We are to be Holy unto Him, not man.

It's a sign of respect. Don't you dress nice for people, like on a date or a business meeting? Why not for God? Many churches are very lenient nowadays though. Some people come in jeans, sneakers, flip flops. I don't think it matters to Jesus what we look like. What's in our heart is most important.

May God Bless you.

I think it's important to be covered, meaning no cleavage and your skirt/shorts at a proper length. Other than that no dress code necessary. You have really been to church w/ an official dress code or was that just the "vibe" you got based on how everybody looked? My old church had a dress code "you must wear clothes" LOL< that was it. cute eh?

Don't work places have dress codes. Even fast food joints have dress codes. Although many Churches I know do not have a dress code, many believers want to look good and presentable. As for my Church in particular, we go to Church in suits, jeans, sweat pants....but not immorally dressed.
