Sit in a room with a humming air conditioner. In a short time, your mind will habituate to the sound and it will no longer consciously register. Peraps god is such a pervasive experience that our early awareness of "god" becomes the foundation of all other experiences. Perhaps "god" is the one thing we have never been able to fully explain - consciousness itself - without which no experience, including memory, would be possible. Of course, this sort of "god" would have many of the characteristics of the monotheistic concept of god; at would know everything (to know anything requires consciousness), etc. In fact, the entire universe can be (an has been) explained by starting with only consciousness as a self existing field. But this would be a very different god from the Abrahamic one, since it would not necessarily have a personality.

The memories are there, but many haven't
made the connections. If one could drop all ideas of what 'God" is supposed to be like,
while at the same time searching their memory banks, (I don't mean trying-to-find-their-car-keys type looking, I mean looking 'as if' your life depended on it), you
will eventually tap into 'unconscious' memories that your mind will be dazzled to behold. Very intense realizations. You'd be
amazed how strangely familiar these memories are. The body itself has cellular memory and literally remembers the moment of its conception. If you explore as I've suggested, you may bring many of these memories to conscious awareness.
